Everton have placed Portuguese international defender Abel Xavier on the transfer list after negotiations over a new contract broke down.
It was reported that The Blues offered the player a pay-as-you-play deal, which was rejected by Xavier and his representatives.
Negotiations between the two parties have been ongoing over the past couple of months, with his current deal running out at the end of June.
The defender will then become a free agent under the Bosman ruling, but it is thought he may be allowed to leave Goodison sooner than that, with the European transfer window in many countries coming to a close at the end of the month.
Xavier arrived at Goodison from Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven in August, 1999 for £1.5m, but had previously been linked with a move away from the club after outstanding displays for his country at Euro 2000.
Hes decent, experienced and versatile. He be available for Europe. I think he'd do nicely.
