Everton have placed Portuguese international defender Abel Xavier on the transfer list after negotiations over a new contract broke down.
It was reported that The Blues offered the player a pay-as-you-play deal, which was rejected by Xavier and his representatives.
Negotiations between the two parties have been ongoing over the past couple of months, with his current deal running out at the end of June.
The defender will then become a free agent under the Bosman ruling, but it is thought he may be allowed to leave Goodison sooner than that, with the European transfer window in many countries coming to a close at the end of the month.
Xavier arrived at Goodison from Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven in August, 1999 for £1.5m, but had previously been linked with a move away from the club after outstanding displays for his country at Euro 2000.

Hes decent, experienced and versatile. He be available for Europe. I think he'd do nicely.

ahh but he looks like Santa Clause..

I think he'd be a truly excellent signing for MUFC - can't be much worse than the current defence.

Vast improvement on Phil Neville. Then again a dead rat can play better than Phil!!

hey! Phil is a good player! Just leave him alone!
Xavier eh? Err.... not sure, i dont think he is what we need. But...if we can get him for a cheap price then bring him here. If we leave him to the summer then we'd have him for ...free!
If he plays well for the club then we can keep him. If he plays crap then we can sell him and make a profit. cant be a bad deal!

i dont consider Phil to be a first team regular.
He should be a replacement for whoever goes out through injury. Cos he can play right and left back and midfield (if needed)

Piss off YSB

there there ... said it .. and guess I am not the only one who actually acknowledge Xavier's ability ... he's gone now ...

And Reizeger played in Barca's lost to lowly Ossuna end of the week ... The paper here shows a pic. of him being out-jumped by a smaller opponent ... Speaks for itself ... I hope we don't sign anybody now ... doesn't matter ...

Oh dear, it appears that Liverpool have stolen the march on us and are going to sign him...surprise surprise ... yet another defender.

And for only £250k as well...
I can only suppose that Alex didn't rate him. Mind you he is injury prone isn't he? We don't need any more injury prone defenders.

They might be quite a lot defenders of his same capability around but I think he's a bit ahead on several front :
- not Cup tie for European games
- already adapting well into English game
- versatile across the backline ...

that's why I have said it .... we should get him if we are looking for reinforcement ... But I totally agreed on Neil on this 2 points :
- Fergie don't rate him, ... else you will know that Walter Smith will always let Fergie has the 1st option instead of anybody else ...
- He's injury prone @!!! ... well, we don't need another May !
