Xavi Simons | Signed for Leipzig permanently.

Huge talent, although will attract the ‘too small for the PL’ brigade no doubt. Great ball carrier and finisher too.

I’d love us to sign him so much. Hope it’s true that we’re interested

We're 'interested' in the way that we're 'interested' in virtually every player that gets tweeted about on a daily basis that will amount to nothing is the likeliest scenario

Eredivise and Dutch though, absolute shoe-in we'd be interested.

Yea, because we never actually sign footballers, only other teams do. Christ.
Did I say that? No. But you can't sit there and say we operate just like any other big team in the market, because we don't

You have no idea how we/other teams actually ‘operate’. All you can see is that they sign players and we sign players, and they miss targets as do we. The rest is a combination of fan and media gossiping and complaining.

What have United done differently to say, Bayern Munich so far this summer? Interested in a striker, interested in a midfielder, linked with several, backed away from deals due to cost and have had players choose other teams. They will of course eventually sign some players this summer, as will we.

The amount of posters who consistently seem to feel they have any idea of how to ‘run a football club’ is staggering.

“The final decision is ONLY up to the player.”

Yeah, no shit, Romano

Buy back clause but left PSG on a free

Sounds plausible

It's actually true. It was a deal between all parties, PSG didn't want to let him go and the player didn't want to leave permanently, the initial idea was a loan but PSV wanted to make money out of it, so all parties agreed on Simons leaving on a free while PSG would get a buy option.

Definitely talented, his numbers in the eredivise are impressive. 19G (joint top scorer) and 8 A in 34 games.

Wouldn't it make more sense to get him for cheap and find a more balanced player instead of spending 60m on Mount? Or if not, maybe get him alongside Mount?

That’s one of the worst business deals I’ve ever heard!

Are you sure United didn’t negotiate it?

How is it a bad deal? Everyone got what they wanted, the player got the loan situation that he wanted, as did PSG(who also gave themselves one more year to convince the player to extend) and PSV are either paid 6m for a loan or keep the player.

Because PSV are getting £6m for a player who is probably worth at least 5 times that.

Yes they might have got a player for a season who was brilliant but they have signed him on a free transfer. They had no need to agree to any future fee if he was on a free!

Unless I’ve misunderstood it and PSG agreed to release him on a free on the basis of this fee being inserted but it still feels ridiculous and a bit pointless

EDIT - just checked and Simons contract ran out in June/July 2022 so signed on a free transfer for PSV being out of contract so would have had absolutely zero obligation to PSG for a future transfer fee

PSV weren't getting the player without that clause, the player requested it. They had every need to agree on that clause with the player if they wanted him.

Completely agree, this deal benefits nobody but PSG!

Then I did misunderstand. Apologies. Thought it was being insinuated that they agreed the fee with PSG not the player.

I still think that £6m is far too low to agree to, albeit I kind of understand why

Surely if you’re PSG you want to activate that clause. His market worth must be around 30-40mil possibly more. I read people saying it’s up to Xavi what happens but even if PSG lie their ass off say he’ll get first team minutes then sell his ass in January.

Would be a brilliant signing, which means it's not happening.

Would be an amazing signing. Just doesn't make much sense, he'll want to go somewhere he is guaranteed to start week in week out (and rightly so).

Made a mistake leaving PSV so early and made a bigger mistake going back to PSG
