I have heard a couple of rumours about alonso and a bid from United, now it seems the main club site is printing it in the gossip section, some spanish radio saying United have opened a blank cheque book for him, 99.9% bullshit but hey its open season for these type of stories.

Rumour it may be, and a pretty shit one at that but what do we think of Alonso?

Personally I wouldnt mind him at United. He is a cracking footballer with a great brain and would defo improve the squad, not to mention his CL and premiership experience. Add that to the RAWK type meltdown the dipper fans would engage in it would be a decent transfer to pull off no matter how unlikely.

What do you lot think.?
 
It's Xabi. Great player but at his age and with his Liverpool history, I don't see him coming here.
 
I never heard of Xavi Alonso. (seriously, it's as annoying as the Adam-Adams thing)

The fella playing for Madrid is a bit useful but he'll be 30 this autumn. In that group age we have O'Shea, Carrick, Park, Berbatov, Vidic, Evra and there are the older guys like Brown, Owen, Ferdinand, Giggs etc. We should go for someone younger.

Oh, and there's not a chance that Madrid would sell him.
 
Better version of Carrick, too old and not really what we need.

Would never happen, but if we could get him for the right price, I'd snap him up. Would be great to play in midfield for a season or two while some of the younger players come through.

Everyone saying he is too old is wrong IMO.

He's now in his prime, and is the type of player who could play for years more as his football brain is superior to the majority of other players.

I've waxed lyrical about Alonso for years, he would definitely improve United but I don't see this transfer happening at all. He is Madrid's midfield general.
 
He could certainly play a integral part at least for the next 3 years if signed now.
 
One of my favourite players, would absolutely love it if we got him. He'd slot right in.
 
Bloody hell, Sky Sports' site has a headline reading :'Alonso set for English return'; it's about Bolton midfielder Mikel Alonso. :(
 
They pronounce v and b the same, so it hardly matters if you write it as Xabi or Xavi.

I'd love to see him at United. Great midfielder and exactly what the squad is missing now that Scholes has retired.
 
The only time I enjoyed watching him on the pitch was when Scholes got sent off trying to kick/punch him..

We were heavily linked with him before he joined liverpool, but his age, wages and probable transfer fee i cant see it. In any case I doubt Mourinho would want to sell him... you could argue he's their most important player with vindication.

Good player however.
 
I wanted him so bad before he went to Liverpool. And he was exactly what we needed at the time. Such a shame.
