The news of the world report beckham going to barca with Xabi Alonso from Real Sociedad as a replacement for £20m

Who????

He's a young quality midfield player. But, it's the News of the World on Sunday, it has Fergie quotes (like he'd say what they claim).

It's pure rubbish.

TBH the bidding presidents actually offer money to the club. The two that have said that they will bring in RVN have aparently said that even if they lose the election they will still give the money to the club. It's all electionering shite that most British people do not understand, because we do not have clubs that work in this fashion.

fergie is quoted as saying that Madrid already have a 10mil deposit on Alonso so it looks like he's madrid bound

maybe he's makele's replacement

If he was Makelele's replacement why are they suggesting he could replace Becks? Is he on the flanks or in the centre?

I wonder that about Beckham sometimes.

Fair comment.

BTW has Joaquin had a good season? I havent caught much of Betis recently but they seem to be going strong. Denilson on one wing and Joquin on the other must be pretty exciting to watch.

he played some brilliant football beginning of the season..but faded after that..
i think betis is a very good team..but just unlucky in conceded some shit goals

He scored a cracker against Real Madrid in Sociedad's 4-2 win over Madrid weeks ago or so.
You lot never catched that?

'tis, but you got to look at what is actually between them to realise why they have no chance of winning the league.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Fergie was using Xabi Alonso to show PSG that if they don't accept our offer we'll go elsewhere. I can't see Xabi Alonso coming to Old Trafford and feel it's Fergie getting some leverage with PSG by talking another player who can play in that role (although, like Pirlo at Milan, Alonso can anchor as well as play behind a striker)

What kind of player is Alonso? What is his strong point? (passing, dribbling, creativity, tackling, etc.)

Defensive mid. I think.</strong><hr></blockquote>

Exactly right, Defensive center mid, with a good shot (but only 3 goals this season) but he can pass well and for a DM has great vision when he is upfield. Also he has a great engine on him, but so do all Sociedad players as they train twice a day or something like that.

Fergie fears he could be priced out of Alonso offer

TeamTalk :

[Sir Alex Ferguson fears a £20m buy-out clause will scupper Manchester United's bid to sign Real Sociedad star Xabi Alonso.

The former Aurrera, Vitoria and Eibar midfielder has been one of the many leading lights in Sociedad's rise to surprise La Liga title contenders.

Ferguson has had his scouts watch the Spain international on a number of occasions as he bids to beef up his title-winning squad ahead of another crack at the Champions League next season.

But with Sociedad's title rivals Real Madrid having reportedly already offered a £10m down payment for the talented 21-year-old, Ferguson knows he faces an uphill task in landing his signature.

"Alonso's contract runs until 2007 but we have been told there is a £20m buy-out clause," Ferguson said.

"But we understand that Madrid have offered a down payment of £10m and that they are prepared to let him stay at Sociedad next season."]

For the kind of price they're hoping, I hope this is the last of any interest Utd ha of him.

Why shud we be paying £20mil for 'potential' when the market has collapsed?

There are scores of class & proven players who now cost nothing or fees nowhere near his asking price!

Utd's supposed big transfer war chest should be used to buy the 2-3 class players we sorely need to become top dogs of Europe, rather than on one 'potential' - we'll end up seeing loyal supporters giving the same end-of-the-season defensive excuses again next season as to why paying so much for a 'potential' who needs time to settle is so much better than buying for the same amount, 2-3 class players who'd probably see us advance further in the European scene. ;)
