Had my X-Box a month now so my free XBL-Gold is about to expire.

I believe it's 40 quid for 12months in the shops, anyone know of anywhere to get it cheaper?

There's a guy selling them on ebay for about 25quid but i have trust issues with that website....

for some reason i got a 1 month XBL card through the post today, in a small envelope from prague

Nobody on the PC would do it unless they are those sad bastards that play MMOs.

To be honest Weaste. I dont think 25 pounds a year is a lot. Works out to around 2.20 pounds a month. Ive had and played both PSN and Live, and IMO I thought Live pissed all over it. But I guess that my opinion.

It was a great business idea though. Whoever thought of it must be one of the biggest cnuts to grace the planet. Charge you for going online when you already have the hardware and internet connection - feck me that is mad.

Still I don't blame ya - xbox360 has been the one to have in the past and at this moment in time.

The point is that most games are not dedicated servers. All XBL is doing is routing you about. It might not seem a lot to you, but you have to think what the hell are they doing to warrant this amount of money? Say there are 10 million people, multiply it by 30 quid, basically for nothing. I'm surprised that nobody has tried to hack it, because for the most part, online gaming is P2P, there are no dedicated servers.

Frankly, the whole online console system is the reason I prefer PCs over consoles. As with the console game prices (which are frankly ridiculous), this is apparently one of those things which console gamers have somehow decided to accept as a fact of life.

Maybe they don't know better.

No one plays games on computers anymore except for football manager and MMORPGs. If i wanted to play the games im playing on my xbox on my PC i would of spent far more money upgrading video cards etc. to get it at the same performance level.

Gold is like 80 bux australian... sounds like its a better deal to buy it in Australia then the UK :P

These are the heros that PC gaming produces. Probably sits on counterstrike screaming at everyone.

Yes, and I play World of Warcraft all day and eats lots and lots of cheeze doodles.

Similarily, you're probably playing Halo all day, calling everyone who kills you a 'faggot'. Also, you're 13.

See what I did there?

I don't want to get into the whole "PC vs Console" discussion again, but that "people" only play Football Manager and MMORPGs on PCs anymore is blatantly false. You can't be a gamer, or you wouldn't say such a thing. Just a couple of weeks ago Red Alert 3 was released, and I expect it sold quite well. In a few days, Left 4 Dead is released, and I know that's going to sell extremely well. Then there's all the other games the last year which are either PC exclusive (Crysis Warhead, Spore, etc) or are made for and are better on PC (Left 4 Dead, Red Alert 3).

I forgot strategie games :nervous:

Spore was shit. Crysis is nice graphics but thats about it.

Left 4 dead is on the cs:Source engine... good luck with that not being overhyped.

I used to be all about PC games and only play sports games on console. but next gen has really won me over.

Spore wasn't shit. It was far from as good as it could and should have been, but it was a decent game. I know it's very popular to hate Crysis for some reason (probably because the graphics blows everything else out of the water), but I happen to think that Crysis was a very good FPS. One of the best in the recent years. Certainly better than the likes of FarCry 2 or Halo 3.

Not really sure what you mean here, but have you seen the game? Have you tried the demo? It really is quite a good game. Also, it's not the CS:Source engine, it's the Source engine. Hence the ":Source" after, you know, CS. Speaking of the Source engine, have you played the Orange Box? Team Fortress 2 is one of the best online FPS games ever, and Portal was nothing short of brilliant (if a little short). Not to mention Episode Two, of course.

I got myself a 360 not too long ago to see what the fuzz is about, and I'm not extremely impressed. I'm not as completely anti-console as I used to be, and I can see the appeal, but the PC is certainly going to be my main source of gaming. Currently I own three games on the console, and I can see how people can prefer to play at least two of them on consoles (FIFA 2009, which is miles ahead of the PC version, and NFS Carbon, which was a good game on the PC too, but fits in better on a console).
