It's the final countdown and United still have points to get. Mathematically of course, we could still top the division - that won't happen though.

Win our last three matches and we can't finish below second. Win one match, or draw with City and we get a Champions League qualification slot.

Other permutations are possible of course, but all those rely on other teams dropping points.

At any rate, Chelsea will have played against Barcelona on the Sunday before this one, so they're unlikely to be full of energy. Good chance they'll be full of frustrated disappointment though and be looking for someone to take it out on.

Late start to this one, so I don't know what the turnout will be like. I'm hoping we'll be hearing a loud night at the LSV.

Match is live on Sky.

I think I'd quite like us to face a Chelsea side "full of frustrated disappointment." Rather that than giddy elation.

Looks like they are being competent against Palace, hopefully will be thinking about Barca and switch off against us.

Possibly a bit of a big hope, but we did run them close at theirs earlier in the season. Well, apart from not really having m/any chances ourselves mind you.

As it turns out, they weren't just frustrated and disappointed: They were humiliated. They are going to be an ornery bunch with a point to prove.

Phallon will explain what "ornery" means, and we will smash them.

I wish I could share your confidence, but I'm terrified that the wounded beast is going to come out on Wednesday with a level of determination and sheer will unseen in women's football since.... well, since Arsenal yesterday in Lyon. And given that we don't really need a positive result, it's going to be hard for us to match that intensity -- though I really really really really really hope I'm wrong.

Yeah how many points do we need for top 3 finish?

Chelsea have got the league title, barring a miracle, but if we beat them then we are guaranteed a WCL spot. I think we will be fired up for this - Maya will motivate them.

The motorway was frigging awful this afternoon. It's taken me nearly four hours to do what is usually two and a half. Fingers crossed the Chelsea players get stiff knees on the coach stuck in traffic!!

I'm glad you are going to this - I no longer can, living in Cornwall. I miss it like mad, but will be at Wembley. Enjoy, and let's hope for a positive result. Personally, I think we will do it.

I've got a quietly confident feeling too... Actually more nervy for the derby on Sunday - OT isn't really 'home' for us, and City have Hemp and Greenwood back

Additional incentive - fully expect Arsenal to come back and win it but Villa lead 2-0 at HT. A win and we’re second.

Eek, but a win for Villa means Chelsea win the league they win or draw tonight. Which I’m sure they won’t…gingers heavily crossed!

Edit - gingers??? I meant fingers.

They’ll win the league regardless, but that’s a good point regarding Chelsea’s motivation for tonight. Oh well, we should be moving past that and become better in big matches anyway.

Aston villa leading Arsenal 2-0 at halftime. Jordan Nobbs and Kirsty Hanson the scorers. They deserve the lead - they've been the better team and had the best chances.

If that sticks - United back in with a shout of second. A Chelsea win and they win the League tonight - they'll win the title playing United - again.

No. No they won't! Not happening! Not at the Leigh Fortress!

Sadly, I'm going to miss this one because I'll be teaching the very last class of my career before retirement (!). If anyone is able to find a full-match replay somewhere on line afterwards -- ideally without spoilers -- please post a link for me or send me a message. (It'll be about midnight in the U.K. by the time I'm free to watch it.)

Wow. Villa now 3 up. Katie McCabe the guilty defender this time.

Russo, Williamson, Little came on at HT - but Arsenal scarcely got a touch before Villa scored their third.

Agree that we needed Janssen/Naalsund to sit in front of that defense but I expected Clinton/Miyazawa to be the one dropped.

I think it makes sense to rotate a bit with Sunday’s game in mind. And we’ll need Janssen in this game to give us more steel in midfield. Plus it’s good to have a player of Toone’s quality on the bench. We were lacking attacking options against West Ham when we needed a goal in the second half.

I'm expecting to see them both come on as sub in the second half though anyone's guess when. With the derby match coming up perhaps just a pragmatic choice to rotate the team a little. That said, I really don't want to see Chelsea celebrate another title while playing us.

To my mind, Sunday's game is far more important than this one. If we're going to earn a CL spot at City's expense, I think we should beat City to do it. Just my two cents (pence?).

Rotation? Skinner would never!!

Perhaps it is a pragmatic choice, certainly Clinton over Toone as that looks more like two 6s and an 8 rather than two 6s and a 10.

In principle, I agree with you - the derby is more important than Chelsea at the end of the day. On the other hand, we can and should be aiming to make Sunday nice and easy by winning tonight.

Terrible news for my FF team. I'll withdraw that comment if they come on and score a few in the second half.
Same, but it makes perfect sense. Janssen/ Miyazawa had to start this one, and the one to make way had to be Toone or Clinton. Benching Toone is probably the right call on balance. Malard for Terland is an interesting one.

Yeah one problem in big matches has been the fact that we haven’t had any game changers to come on and make an impact. Just hope that there is still an opportunity to do it when they do get subbed in.

Chastity Grant - what a great name. So satisfying to see Arsenal getting a drubbing. Come on you Reds. Second place is there to grab.

I don't want to get ahead of myself here - but Phallon Tullis-Joyce has conceded 9 WSL goals all season. Arsenal's Zinsberger conceded 5 tonight!

With that result I suspect we might see a different Chelsea - a side aiming for a point.

Win tonight and we qualify for the CL at City's expense tonight.

Keep on winning and we get second place and a direct pass to the group stage.

Thought both 2nd and 3rd have to go through qualification, is that wrong?
