Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy Leeds Plc than Rio?

With the current market prices showing that Leeds are worth less than Rio Ferdinand, wouldn't it make life simpler if we just bought the club instead of the player?

:D

Possibly, but if we strip away its two best assets Rio and Kewell. It would be worthless and fold. <img src="graemlins/keano.gif" border="0" alt="[Keano]" />

<img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> I've made this point before, and yes, it would be cheaper. <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

Government won't allow it however, and neither will the league.

How unfortunate... it would have been nice to have Kewell and Woodgate as well as Ferdinand...

The government wouldn't have a say in it, you can hardly refer it to the monopolies and mergers commision with the number of professional clubs around. As for the FA, they might object but would only have grounds to do so if we planned to operate both clubs in the league.

Teams have merged before for financial reasons and caused no problems so I say we just buy Leeds United. Stick Robinson, Ferdinand, Kewell, Woodgate, Keane and Fowler in our squad (possibly even Mills and Smith) shut down Leeds as a club and flog of the rest of the players (although I'd keep Batty as a janitor at OT). ;)

I'd make Ridsdale wash the kit, Batty clean Keanes boots and Martyyn flog programmes. I'd then bulldoze elland road and erect a new United mega store. Poifect.

We can even flog Elland Road and their proposed new stadium for the financing... <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

Nah, we might as well keep it for our reserves games... and we get El Tel to do the commentary for MUTV, nice...

It would also make it easier for Marching to come out of the closet and finally admit he's a Red. <img src="graemlins/keano.gif" border="0" alt="[Keano]" />

Well, we buy Leeds for 25m, take on the 75m debt - that's 100m.

We sell Martyn (5m), Bowyer (9m), Dacourt (10m), Mills (8m), R Keane (10m), Viduka (15m), lots of fringe players (10m), Elland Road (8m).

We recoup 75m. So we get to keep Rio, Kewell, A Smith, Woodgate, Robinson for 25m.

Not bad eah? <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

pm for you!

I just wonder, why don't we do that? No one can really stop it!!! You don't even have to buy the club, just a controlling stake.

We would be the most hated club in the world though, worse than Real being government funded, we would be the bastards who left a lot of fans without a club to support just for $$$$.

Now, wouldn't it be lovely to see Leeds fans being left clubless. Ha ha ha ha. <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" />

I'm not too sure about this nobody can stop it business. If there is a law stopping media companies owning more than 10% of a football club, then surely there is something stopping one club owning more than a certain percentage stake in another club.

Otherwise we would have done it surely?

And also, are most of the shares not owned by small investors (ie Leeds supporters), who would never agree to such a thing.

i'm sure there's a united fan out there with deep enough pockets...come on, put the buggers out of their misery and close down LUFC. we'lll take bowyer and kewell, you can have robinson and rio, arsenal will take mills and dacourt, and the rest can just be put to work in the club shop.

what a belting idea <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> I can only imagine there must be some legal reasons why this couldn't happen or surely the biggest clubs would be doing this already...

There was loads of emails last year suggesting that the Scousers should do the same to Man Utd <img src="graemlins/nervous.gif" border="0" alt="[Nervous]" />

But when it came to the crunch they couldnt get the wheels of the share-bus <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

This is not possible.

I dont think its possible for one football team to own another. Especially not in the same league. That would lead to match fixing etc. I think they even have laws against individuals having too much shares in various clubs.

Tho its ridiculous that Rio is more expensive than the club. If we pay £35 million for him its nuts.
