Would Messi improve us?

If this version of Messi was available for free, would you have him at United? The main question is would he improve us?

Please keep Ronaldo's last stint with us out of this thread.

Edit: I see many people taking it as a suggestion to sign Messi. Instead, it's just a hypothetical scenario to ask if he'll improve us as a team. It's the same as asking if AC Milan Ronaldinho would improve us.

No. I don't see an altruistic version of Messi joining us. Besides the financial outlay, we would also have to adjust our playing style to feed him, which will set us back a few years again. Big step in the wrong direction. We need to find the new Messi and not try to get the old one in.

Any chance you could stop making shite threads?

We already had one aging superstar that walked around the pitch and put in 0 effort. Unless the ball was at his feet

I think it would be like Casemiro. At the start he would definitely improve us but I think he would become a problem around the end of the season.

He would improve us, but not to the extent to justify all his financial package.

If we can afford Messi, I’d rather we splash that resources to get Foden/Yamal and Cole Palmer. They were on the verge of forming a lethal triangle with Mainoo.

No. Generally speaking I hate it when we sign these old players. The only time I saw sense in it was Zlatan.

Fred out. I think Lionel the Red would fit the outfit. Fist bumps his way to glory.

NO. We are not a retirement home

He wouldn't.

You would need to have an already functional squad filled with hard working and young players who could cover up for his lack of work rate in order to acomodate him and even then I don't think it would be worth it from the sporting perspective.

Depends, can he fill in at the back to cover injuries?

I’d still take him assuming he was doing it just to test himself in the Premier League before retiring rather than for money.

Would 100% get Messi put on the back of my kids shirt too.

And think he’d improve us because Hojlund isn’t ready to lead the line every week yet.

Would still rather we just try to sign some 18/19 year old who we think will become world class though.

Obviously, he would be our best player.
Just need to sign De Paul as well.

Vitek

Shaw
Martinez
De Ligt
Dalot

Garnacho
Ugarte
Mainoo
De Paul

Fernandes
Messi

Give him a free role with no defensive responsibility, it would be wonderful, but probably an unrealistic signing.

No.

Messi has declined a good amount after his WC success.

And his attacking output isn't insane anymore to have others run for him.

Two years ago could’ve been great to see him in a United shirt. Not now.

Yes. He certainly would in attack, he still dribbles and gets assists and goals. But similar to most players at his age, younger players would have to do a lot of the running off the ball for him

Players like Garnacho are up for it though and would learn a lot. He already does with Argentina but on a daily basis learning from Messi about professionalism and tips and tricks would be a goldmine. If we're going to put McTominay on the pitch anyway his running might as well be for Messi.

However it doesnt seem like hes interested in moving to England so I dont see it happening.

It's this kind of thinking that's caused us to be such a mess over the last decade.

We want to be signing the next Messi, the next Ronaldo..... not the mid-late 30 something originals in the twilight of their careers.

We aren't a retirement home.
