Worthington and FA Cups may be just what Diego needs

Contrary to the opinions of a few posters here, anyone who questions the ability of Diego Forlan to be able to meet the high standards of being a Manchester United first team/on the fringes of the first team player does not necessarily dislike the Uruguayan.

I think that maybe the Worthington and FA Cup runs may be the key to giving him confidence enough to start hitting the target. Sir Alex came under fire for fielding `weakened` teams in the 2 competitions in past seasons, but I think giving opportunities to the young lads and those who do not regularly play in the first team or are usually sitting on the bench for much of a Premiership game is a fine move.

Does anybody agree that the Cup games might be the thing to kickstart Diego`s Manchester United career?

Yea definately, also with the rumours about Richardson this could also be his chance to shine.
By the way when is the Leicester match?

You can get kickstarts from playing in Cup matches, but losing these games for the team because of his inability to score will hurt him even more.

Belive it or not, I think the pressure of playing cup games are much greater than league games.

I think coming on as a substitute when we're leading 2 or 3 goals will give him some room to play good football. He can do without all the pressure at the moment.

At least it can be sure that he won't have too much pressure in the Worthington Cup.

I guess you are right.. SAF hasn't paid any attention to the Worththing Cup since it was the Coca Cola League cup except for the upbringing of newcomers...

I think it is as competitive as any reserve game will be for us...

let's hope we see Forlan in our Worthington Cup game this season...

are you having a laugh? how much did he cost and what are his wages? if he can't cope with the 'pressure' of leicester at home in the league cup then he is not the signing mclaren had him cracked up to be.

you're just making excuses for the lad now...

I am not making any excuses for the lad. IMO, he's a good footballer. The fact that he hasn't settled at United after almost 40 games shows that he is now under a lot of pressure. If he had scored 3-4 goals in his first 10 games we would most likely be seeing a different man.

His records from his previous club shows he's a capable footballer... we've seen Andy Cole and his inability to score for long stretches.. we all believed in him, what's wrong with giving that chance to Forlan now?

cole had scored a few goals in the english league before from what i remember. he had scored a shedload in fact. i take your point though. still think any 17 year old reserve would have scored at least one by now, pressure or no pressure.

I agree with you on the 17 year old point.

Anyway, forlan still looks comfortable playing deep into midfield in certain games. When he was in Argentina he was a winger so it's not a surprise he doesn't look clear cut like a forward or a striker. May he will solve our Beckham's problem should Chadwick really quits OT.
