I left England for the US in March of that year and missed the Cup final (long story). I remember going to OT a few times and wishing he would stay on his f'kin feet for a while ffs. He may have smartened up after '90 but in '89 and early '90 he was piss poor imo.

He didnt smarten up a whole lot but he still had the odd burst of pace past a full back, in the whole he was a flop but i love him for setting up Robbo's goal in the first game.
Apparently he's dieing or severly ill with something these days, Parkinson's im guessing. :(

Taibi never really got a chance though did he? Two bad matches and he was out. I felt a bit sorry for him.

As for bad players, Birtles and Davenport immediately spring to mind as do Phelan and Russel Beardsmore.

the worst ever player to play for us has surely got to be

Lee Martin

I was thinking that too but he did score one of our most important goals ever so i let him off. That goal was incidentaly set up with an exquisate Neil Webb pass, ironic that they should both turn up here.

He has MS. Which was probably developing towards the end of his career and may account for his loss of form.

Neil Webb wasn't that bad.

And Taibi - now there's an interesting one. Man of the match against Liverpool I believe. Made some bad mistakes - but were they any worse than some that Fab has made?

And how come he didn't "need time to settle in" and be given all the support that he deserved as a United player, instead of all the slagging off.

His recent form shows that he is a good keeper.

Answers on a postcard please....

Taibi must have angered Fergie some how caz their is no way he could have been a bad keeper after that blinder versus Liverpool when we had only 10 men :D

Which suggests double standards?

If you care to look you'll see that he has failed at every "big" club he's been at. He's good when he has to make a lot of saves but when tested only once or twice every match his concentration isn't good enough.

I don't think he was given a fair chance at Old Trafford tho. But at the time we didn't have any chance to keep om gambling with a might be good keeper. He definately isn't our worst player ever.

BIG FACT: Why no goalkeeper can be nominated in this topic!!!!

Goalkeepers never where red shirts  :D
(except Barthez last season in the pre-tour, before any wise guy says so <img src="graemlins/smirk.gif" border="0" alt="[Smirk]" /> )

How good or bad he has proved to be now, is irrelevant - when he came to us, Fergie had obviously considered him to be OK.

Other players have been pardoned their mistakes and given time - not just Seba, but Silvestre also springs to mind. And Fab.

But after a handful of games, manager and supporters turned against Taibi, yet he showed a lot of promise in the Liverpool game.

Which raises the point about double standards.

In 75-76 we finished third and reached the cup final. That was considered a great season at the time, our first season back. We got relegated in 1973-74. Jimmy Nicholl played that year. Although he was our worst player that year, it is unfair to only blame him for relegation. Paddy Roche struggled in goal and most of the others weren't up to much. George Best attempted a comeback but failed, shades of Dwight. Strangely, they were good days to follow United, no problems getting tickets, no glory hunters. Pity we were useless.
