With all this talk for one or more strikers, is Mexes still needed at OT?

An insane reason to sign someone, i remember Everton did that in the 80's, signed some fella from the lower divisions mainly because Liverpool were after him. Cant remember his name SNodin i think?

hmmm...can't see how buying a striker would effect our needing or not needing a defender.

It's called a budget especially given the fact that mexes won't come cheap

Nah, he's only mentioned Utd
If it's any consolation to you, cisse will choose either you scousers or the arse if he decides to come to england - at least that's what I believe based on his quotes

<img src="graemlins/houllier.gif" border="0" alt="[Houllier]" /> So do you not think that we're rich enough to buy a Mexes and a striker. <img src="graemlins/houllier.gif" border="0" alt="[Houllier]" />

It's nothing to do with our richness.
It has to do with the fact that the PLC is controlling the purse strings - let's not forget the 15 million we still have to pay for the 2nd installment of the Ferdinand fee
Not to mention SAF and PK's intention to sign BOTH escude and burdisso next summer
PLUS a striker, possibly a renowed one who would cost big bucks despite the depressed transfer market

I doubt we'll sign both of them. Probably Escude for sure, as well as a striker. Kenyon also said there would be no more signings in the summer and then we turned around and bought Ricardo, so both SAF and Kenyon are liable to change their minds.

True but Ricardo came for only 1.5 million pounds
I personally wouldn't be surprised if we signed a striker, both escude and burdisso and leave mexes out of the picture. After all, gary neville can also play centre half which I believe is his best position.

Means little. We're in the CL, and we're already one of (if not THE) richest clubs in the world. Going far into the CL and having a good year in the Prem will only mean more money available, irrespective of the Rio deal from last year.

Means a lot because we are a PLC, not some rich tycoon's private club.
Hopefully u r right but you never know what the PLC has up their sleeves or rather how often they are going to get the checkbook out - let's see who's SAF really going after next summer...

Samuel-Mexes would turn out the best pairing anywhere.
