RedCafe Ninja. Stalks the forum undercover, then w
(and TRY and avoid the "left back in the changing room" gags, pleeeeeease)

It wasnt that long ago that both Neville's we automatic England picks.

It wasnt much further back than that that Phil was widely thought of as being a naturally better footballer than Gary.

Do you think he could ever regain his form and claim that number 3 shirt as his own ?

No, don't think so, he's just not improved in the way that had been hoped, partly because he isn't as naturally talented as the rest of the squad.

Doh! I've just read that he HAS been given the number 3 shirt!!! <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

The question remains - will he make that 'position' his own.

(I promise to try and keep up in future <img src="graemlins/nervous.gif" border="0" alt="[Nervous]" /> )

i think he showed last year, when he actually got a good run in the team, that hes a better RB than he is a LB. scored a couple of good goals too.
To be honest i dont think anyone sees him as much more than backup at United, which is a shame considering how he burst onto the scene and into the England squad so quickly.
Gary Neville may not be as 'gifted' technically as him but he brings organisation to the team which is equally as important if not more so.

Will PN be chosen in front Of MS. Nope.

I think it would be better for PN and for United if he moved on. It would let other players come though from the youth team. Though this season we only have 3 FB in Gary/Phil Neville and Micky. So if there are a couple of injuries we might see some new talent.

I always think it's a shame when local lads, who've grown up through the ranks end up moving on. It's these players (the good ones anyway) that have been the main reason for our success over the last 12 years.

These are the players that stick by the club and would run through a wall for the team.

This new youth team coach could prove to be a bigger signing than Rio.

Come on Phil prove your doubters (me included I'm afraid) wrong

Wouldn't matter if he was replaced by another home grown then. Some of our 'home-grown' players aren't english, or manc, anyway, we've just signed them when they were younger - Mads Timm for example.

Is a number just a number or is Ferguson conveying a message to Silvestre by giving the No. 3 shirt to Neville?

Phil Neville will definitely do good this season, the man we needed to strengthen our defence is ours now, and I bet that Rio will have a very extremely good influence upon not only the defenders but on the team as well. No worries maaaaaaaaan.

Crikey, loyalty aside Phil Neville can be a bloody liability. How many times have we seen him make stupid tackles in dangerous areas?

I jsut don't think Phil Neville has developed into a Manchester united quality player. Seemingly as a youngster they talked about him as a United capt. But when I see him play I have panic attacks!

Last season he came on as a sub in some game and got subbed 'cause of his mistakes!

Nice guy, but ...

It sickens me to think how ungrateful of Phil Neville's contributions to both our team and England's. When Sven first came didn't he fill in well for his bro?
What of the revival last season? His performances played a large role in that. Phizzza for me is a far better defender than Silvetre will probablly ever hope to be and he is great going forward. (whether you would like to admit it or not. )
Remember our virtory versus Derby and his goal? Last season it was Fergie's fault to rush him back for an important champion's league match against leverkursen when he had just returned from injury. Fergie has been his manager long enough to see that Phil Neville is a player who needs games for form. Lastseason with an extended run he was brilliant imo. Save for the Fa Cup match away to Aston Villa. But if he hasn't been playing games and worse still he has just returned from injury he i near uselles. so if Fergie wants the best out of him he should give him regular games. else he should jus sell him. That way he will go else where and prove all his doubters wrong.!

Robson, Cantona, Schmiechel, Keane, Irwin, Stam etc - none of them local, and more significant in our success than Phil Neville. Scholes is the only local player who has been 'instrumental' in our success.

PN himself is concidering moving on. I think it would give an opportunity to other young players to come though.

YES !

but not at UNITED ... unless somthing of near apocalypitic propotions happens !</strong><hr></blockquote>

<img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> A bit harsh that for a peter beardsley lookalike

Honestly there is not much chance for Phillip to get the LB spot, since there is already a younger and much better player on that position.

Was George best "local", is Madds Timm, Djordic local? When people from Manchester talk about local they don't include Scandanavia or Northern Ireland.

Butt is local, but not "instrumental" to my mind. Becks is from London. Giggs is Welsh though spent a lot of his youth in Manchester so you could argue the case.
