Will Liverpool win the Premiership?

Put your distaste aside for a second, do you think Liverpool are good enough to win the premiership?

Or do you think Arsenal and Leeds have a better chance?

I think we are beginning to look like a winning team, we are now beating weaker teams convincingly...something we haven't been able to do for over a decade. I remain unconvinced Arsenal can reproduce the sort of magic they produced yesterday away from home. I think Leeds will struggle over christmas with the current injury problems they are having.

Man united have to concentrate on getting into the Champions league IMHO.

I think liverpool can win the league if knowone puts pressure on them, i think the arse are the best bet to do that at the moment. but if utd string three wins together they might just start to get worried.
arse have the advantage of having been there before, to win the league you need to score from everywhere, at the moment liverpool only have owen, if he gets a knock they are f%$cked, arse looked good yesterday their defense is as dodge as utd but they just have more purpose going forward, more confidence.
fergie needs to stop "resting" players and play his best team if they get a few wins confidence is back up.
I do think if you utd pull of the greatest league win ever it will be extra sweet

I think it's the Arse this year. They just look better than anyone at the mo' Much as I hate to admit it, poo are looking good though, all this negative play BS is getting old fellah's. They have stuck to a system that gets them wins and if you call that negative then you are in the wrong game. To win a football game you have to score more goals than your opponent and poo have done that 10 times out of 14 so far!!!

Don't get me wrong, I still hate the scouse but I also respect the way they play at the moment. They hussle, defend as a team, cover each other and break quick. It's not the beautiful game I love but it's within the rules so get off it and give 'em credit.

Still think the Arse will take the Prem' though.

re: the original question. Absolutely. It's between you and Arsenal, with you having the slight edge.

Well done, the best post by a Man Utd fan since i've been coming here...very honest and i think fair!

Arsenal have the best chance of winning the EPL this year. They play better football than Liverpool and have a more talented squad (Vieira, Henry, Pires, Ljungberg, Campbell, Bergkamp etc).

Liverpool will only win the title if Arse don't play up to their potential. But after Arse's brilliant recent performances against Juve, Villa and us at Highbury, I'd say that's becoming increasingly unlikely.

I take nothing away from Liverpool: they're a solid team that consistently plays sound, workmanlike football and hence they are grinding out results. But Arsenal are in a different league to Pool in terms of the quality of football they produce.

Football will be the winner if Arsenal beat Pool to the title this year. Arse are the sort of team that footie fans might well go to see just because they love the game, and irrespective of their allegiances, because Arse play brilliant, exciting, attacking football. I don't think the same could be said about Pool.

Footie fans love to see world-class talent on display. Arsenal are loaded with world-class talent; Pool are not.

My money's on the Arse the win the EPL this year.

I personally think that Liverpool will win the PL this year. The only thing that I would be worried about if I was a Pool fan would be after Christmas. Liverpool may still have it in them to 'do a Newcastle' and maybe get nervous from January.

No doubt about it, Arse are the team I'd be watching if I was in Murkeydive. They have impressed me more than any other team in England this year. But I still get the feeling that a lot of things are going their way when on the other hand, no matter what you may say, there is a lot of things not going Uniteds way.

I only saw the highlights of the West Ham game, and from what I saw, if that game had been played this time last year we'd have won it two or three nil.

When things are going your way you have to build on it, if things start going against Liverpool after Christmas, it will all depend on how they deal with it. But yeah, I think the Premiership is going to Anfield this year.

That'll be based on what the last 3 matches they've played? Before that they were poor.

Liverpool have a squad of reasonable players (+ Michael Owen). They are not a Premiership winning side - unless the standards of the EPL have dropped incredibly over the last couple of years.

Liverpool will qualify for the Champions League next year, but I simply can't see them lifting the EPL title in 2000/01. Sorry, but they just don't have the quality in their squad that's needed to win the really big prizes in football (the FA Cup, UEFA Cup, Worthington etc don't qualify as major prizes - I'm talking about the EPL/Champions League). Owen stands out as a player, but that's it. The rest of Liverpool's team are ordinary, and there's no getting around that.

Now if they had players like Henry, Vieira, Pires, Ljungberg and Becks, they might have a chance. Unfortunately for them, they don't.

Gerrard, Riise, Litmanen, Owen, Berger, Smicer and even Murphy are all capable of doing something brilliant. Ljungberg is no better than Murphy IMHO, he's never even won an award either.

If you look at arsenal they are devastating going forward, but Sol and Upson aswell as Lauren wouldn't get into the Liverpool team on current form..neither would cole ahead of Riise so thats why we are gonna be 6 points clear of you by wednesday.

Arsenal are over-rated. They do not perform against better teams, they have a decent attacking side, but a shite defence. And since when is Campell world class? he was fecking appalling yesterday, ljungberg is average at most and the team spirit seems to be shite. Those french players are there for the money only.

IMO Liverpool are favorites to win the league, their superb defence is the decisive factor. And the fact that they actually have world class players on bench is a big plus, it is often the case that they have the better players on the bench or in the stands than playing.

Who are these world class players on the bench? They only have three world class players, and they - Hyypia, Gerrard ( who by the way has been far from world class this season) and Owen - play if they're fit.

Way to early to be talking about this, can we win the league YES, will we who knows? if we continue on current form i reckon we will. Although i reckon Arsenal are the favourites they seem to have got thier act together and are firing on all cylinders, one thing is for sure it's gonna be a very tight finish.

You are right, checked their league record against the top opposition and they it doesn't look that bad.

21/08/2000 Arsenal 2 - 0 Liverpool
23/12/2000 Liverpool 4 - 0 Arsenal
26/11/2000 Leeds 1 - 0 Arsenal
04/05/2001 Arsenal 2 - 1 Leeds
21/08/2001 Arsenal 1 - 2 Leeds
08/09/2001 Chelsea 1 - 1 Arsenal
06/09/2000 Chelsea 2 - 2 Arsenal
13/01/2001 Arsenal 1 - 1 Chelsea
01/10/2000 Arsenal 1 - 0 Manchester Utd
25/02/2001 Manchester Utd 6 - 1 Arsenal
25/11/2001 Arsenal 3 - 1 Manchester Utd

But their defending is appalling though, you can not be expected to score 3 in every game. Last year they had some shite games, 6 in against United and 4 against Liverpool. their defence has not improved since that. sol Campell is highly overrated, basically gave away their second goal yesterday.

Looked better once keown got in, and their goaltenders are either injured or shite. So the conclusion would be that they are not solid enough at the back to win anything. Can be difficult to score 3 when you are facing Hyypia and the boys.

World class players this and that. Good players then that would improve most squads in the premiership. Fecking tired I am to hear the constant whinging about the world class issue, everyone has their own definition.

That was the only time they'd beaten us in the league in about 10 years.... even then they needed Graham Poll's help. ;)

the gypsies only chance is to pray St. Michael stays fit. Expect an industrial size tub of "Wintergreen linseed rubbing lotion" and a lorry load of radox bath salts to arrive at Anfield imminently.
And there is the rumour Rik Parry isn't that keen to have Houllier back in January as was planned. Doesn't want to lose the "let's do it for Gerard" momentum.
No, I'm afraid the Arse are a much stronger side...more flair and not as one dimensional.

You are forgetting one important fact in your assessment of Arsenal mate: They have yet to lose away from Highbury this year in any domestic competitions.

:p

I don't think Leeds will win. Arsenal have more balanced weapons. Liverpool depend heavily on Owen. With Fowler gone and if Owen misses some time I think Liverpool will have some problems. Even if Arsenal were to lose Henry, I think they still have a lot of fire power. If I was a betting man, and I'm not, I'd put my money on Arsenal. If Liverpool keeps healthy then I'd say they take the PLC. I wouldn't count Man. United out yet. It's a long season with plenty of points still up for grabs. The head-to-head matches will be vital for United.
