Well, another reason that is. A "games" console has never had this effect before, and they are in their millions.

And Redlambs will tell us these things are not gimicks. :p

Wii Fit: 64% of Japanese gamers already giving up
July 4th, 2008 Posted in News, Wii, Written by Valay

Rather than a game, Wii Fit is more comparable to an exercise program. More specifically, it’s something that most people would consider playing in short bursts each day. A recent poll, however, shows that close to two-thirds of Japanese gamers are already giving up on the product. ITMedia in Japan took poll data from 1000 gamers and a staggering 64% of the participants said they stopped using Wii Fit after purchase.

Do you use Wii Fit faithfully everyday?

- 22% - I record my progress faithfully everyday
- 6% - Maybe once every two or three days
- 6% - Once a week
- 64% - Stopped using after purchase

LOL the wii fit....man I gotta love how much of a gimmick that thing is...abit like the Wii itself.

What people dont realise is that you could do 99% of those activities at home without the game and board itself, and it also is incredibly easy to cheat in the game.

For that kinda money you're just better off getting a short-term gym membership, or simply buying some home fitness equipment like dumbells or a large workout ball.

Why don't Sony or Microsoft just bring out their own "fitness" add-ons? Or a similar controller?

Because its rather silly, if people want to workout they should go to the gym or do some home exercises...not buy some silly virtual kit.

I don't believe they look at the money Nintendo is making and think "thats too silly for us".

Dance mats, plastic guitars and drums and the eye-toy thing are silly as you can get (and lots of fun).

You could replace "Wii Fit" with any piece of exercise equipment and get the same results. Tons of people have rowing machines, bull worker or free weights gathering dust in their garage.

it seems that Sony and Microsoft aren't interested in casual gaming (for now)

personally I use my Wii to play GC games like wind waker etc. never had the chance to finish them, and there a some good wii games, although their amount is quite small, I really liked SSBB.

I have been a huge Nintendo fan for over 20 years. In that time i have owned every console they have ever released.

I pre-ordered my wii six months before its release and collected it 6AM on launch day.

I have hardly touched it for nearly a year now. Am really disappointed with the
games that have ben released so far bar 1 or 2 titles (Notably Mario Galaxy!).

As a huge nintendo fan i can honestly say that the console is a bit of a let down so far.

Nintendo need to pull there finger out and match Sony and Microsoft pound for pound when it comes to there next console.

The Wii's graphics capabilities are quite frankly embarrassing. I know they have gone for innovation and my hats off to them for that, but it still doesn't disguise the consoles issues :(

A big room full of middle aged American women having emotional orgasms because they are going to get the chance to lose weight with a Wii.

That's what I thought. It's quite embarassing the way they jump around and hug each other as if this is some how going to enhance their lives forever. They do realize its a games console right?

I'm not going to bother responding to Weaste's pathetic attempts at winding me up, he is taking this forum down to new lows.

Oh, and

fecking Wii fit :wenger:

Being serious for a minute, and I'll be very brief (mainly because it could cause a huge discussion), I actually see what Nintendo is doing with the Wii as possibly being the catalyst towards a repetion of what happened in North America in 1983/4 and a crash of the console industry. There are many parallels, and also something else. Like it or not, there is a shift from just having a games console that does only that (even Wii doesn't do just that), but rather all in one entertainment systems, something that Wii cannot be. There is something else however that can be, and this has happened before...

As PCs move to CPUs and GPUs with smaller and smaller die sizes and have more and more cores (we know this is happening), they become quieter and smaller, meaning more living room freindly. It is also compounded by the fact that now for the first time, your living room display is equal to if not better than your desktop PC display. It is in this scenario that XB720 and PS4 could be non-physical systems.

Could Microsoft go next generation half harted - a similar route to say how Amiga worked. Turn it on and you get a screen asking you to insert a disk - insert the Windows disk, there you go, insert a game disk and you have XB720 (which would also work in a window once in Windows)?

Again I'll say it, while you'll look to the future in a logical sense, do not expect the games industry to follow a logical path.

What would happen though if all the big 3rd party publishers embraced the Wii and started throwing out a total load of crap while at the same time deciding to pull back on large budget XB360 and PS3 games (basically treating them as they treat the PS2 now). My god!

To be fair Sony started the wave of crap with their lack of quality control just to get people to release games on their system.
