Why the hell would we want Overmars?

Manchester United had Barcelona's Patrick Kluivert and Marc Overmars watched at the Nou Camp on Sunday, fuelling speculation that they could be part of a sensational double swoop for next season. The club's top scout Martin Ferguson and United No 2 Carlos Queiroz watched the Dutch duo. And Kluivert scored in the 2-1 win over title-chasing Real Sociedad

I can see us being in for Kluivert but why would we want Overmars? maybe 7 odd years ago when he was still at Ajax but not now surely? he has to be getting on a bit.
 
Giggs is far far better than Overmars.

Ruud is far far better than Kluivert.

There are better options.

Actually I saw overmars against Leverkusen a couple of months ago and he was fantastic. Best player on the pitch. He still has the pace to beat his man, although his delivery is still not brilliant.
EPL defending has improved (slightly) since he was in England, so he won't find it so easy to kick and rush past the last central defender any more.
 
maybe a little but it didnt look like that last night

i agree about kluivert but hes just gone stale at barca and needs to move on badly

looks like RVN wants him at united aswell

i was thinking that too.
remember Fergie once asked Bruce & Pally who was the toughest opponent they had faced in the PL?
their answer was Eric Cantona, so fergie went and bought him.
Maybe Ruud has said he enjoys playing alongside PK

what i cant understand is a lot of Utd fans saying they dont want PK because he has a bad attitude, yet on the other hand they want Ronaldinhio? Little Ronnie by all accounts has a worse attitude! In fact i hear he's worse than Dwight Yorke!

PK is a class player & would bring experience, plus arial ability to the side (which is something we lack IMO)

Overmars has looked shit whenever I've seen him this season. He'll run full pace until he gets to the defender then stop and pass it backwards. Definitely NOT the player he was at Arsenal.

It's not because he's got a bad attitude, it's because he publicly come out and said that he didn't want to play for us in 1998, and that the only English team he'd consider playing for was Arsenal.

We had agreed a £9M fee for him with AC Milan, and he wouldn't even do Fergie the courtesy of coming over to see what we could offer him.

It's on the Treble video if anyone thinks I'm making it up.

I don't care if he's the best player in the world, or if he is Ruud's best mate - he's classed alongside Shearer and Alan Smith, none of them should ever have the priviledge of putting on the red shirt.

If we weren't good enough for him then, - then we're not good enough for him now. He can go and fack off.

Laurant Blanc turned down Fergie at least 3 times before he signed for Utd.
It doesnt mean anything.
If he pulled on that red top and started scoring goals it would be quickly forgotten.
I certainly wouldnt turn down the possibility of a world class player joining us because he once said he'd prefer to joing Arsenal. Remember at that time Arsenal had Bergkamp playing up front and United didnt have Ruud. Kluivert prob thought it would have been best for his career at club AND international level if he played alongside Bergkamp. Now, it would be best if he played alongside Ruud. Whats wrong with that?
