Why so many conservative reactions and positivity 9 years in?

Why is there is so much positivity and hope on the forum after 9 years of up and down results? :wenger:

Like it's almost as if you'd think we're in a title challenge, even after finishing 6th last season, and yes I've heard all the excuses as to why we finished 6th and why it was nothing to do with Ralf and in fact more to do with the terrible players on the pitch... which is true.

We're in absolute free fall by every measure imaginable and yet the feeling around some of the fans on here anyway is that everything is going to be okay and we should just bury our heads in the sand and put absolute faith in ETH to turn this shite into gold.

The season has just literally just begun and I'll say it again, people are continuously putting a positive spin on things where, from the outside looking in at least, this team is on the verge of being the best thing since sliced bread.

Points total history over 9 years: 64, 70, 66, 69, 81, 66, 66, 74, 58. (avg = 68.2 pts)
Top four history over 9 years: 79, 70, 66, 76, 75, 71, 66, 67, 71. (avg = 71 pts)
Delta to top four: -15, 0, 0, -7, +6, -5, 0, +7, -13

We've consistently been a 65-70 point side and either optimism (based on a single 81 point season) or pessimism on a single 58 point season aren't well founded.

Only two seasons in the last 9 where we finished at a significant distance to 4th - Moyes and Ole/Rangnick. Moyes was given too much time and Rangnick was the only interim who has failed that spectacularly. It was clear that noone really listened to the guy by the end of his tenure. Again not a great season to base your estimate of the squad.

My optimism is that we're ~ a top four side and with the right manager we can start pushing higher up. I also believe we have the right manager now. So regardless of the result today, even without any other additions to the squad, I remain positive about finishing ~4th.

I swear a good proportion of positivity must come from club sponsored fans. Its literally so far divorced from the reality of the situation and the neutral opinion its hard to belive its genuine.

The other five big teams are significantly better than us and our team is probably as bad as it ever has been.

Our chief exec got the job because he is the old chief execs mate. Our DoF has got the job off the back of internal promotions but seemingly lacks the credentials to be a director of football in the pl and doesn't seem to have the awareness of other markets or contacts required. And yet, there is still an army of people on here willing to defend them and tell us its a fresh start that requires time. Any right minded person can tell that on the current course we could be I the same position five years down the line

It's time we start calling put these unrealistic and frankly ridiculous opinions. They have done a lot to shield the glazers down the years
