Why IMO we won't buy a recognised striker (eg/ ronaldinho)

It's quite simple : SAF has to play Scholes, Keane & Veron. Therefore to play all three and incorporate a four man defence & midfield we play 4 - 4 - 1 - 1.

So if SAF went out and bought a world class striker for £15 million +, he'd be paying alot of money for a benchwarmer.

So i'd say that he will buy a striker, a young talent, i.e. someone like Bellion.

We need someone to cover for RVN to allow the system to work when he's injured / rested. But that is unlikely to be a big money signing for the reasons stated here.

Wish I'd thought of that.

;)

Bellion? I'm not sure, much too young and inexperienced....
We need a second striker, rotate Scholsey/Seba/Keano...

Keano seems to have quite a few prob's lately (re: fitness)
What happens if RVN is out, let's say, for a month? We need adequate cover...
Ole is a substitute player
Forlan is much too young
we need someone with a physical presence aswell....
Ronaldinho, Sheva, Trezeguet, even if it is in the summer, I don't mind waiting!!

Right. That's it.

I thought he was barking, now I'm sure.

Paz - do you actually watch United? Like last season, or even a couple of weeks ago.

Agree 100%

The OGS bit aside - how the hell can Forlan be too young at 23??????

i agree we wont get a new established player.

whoever said ole and forlan are not up to it better get their eyeglasses checked.

Ole is DEFINITELY not a substitute player, and forlan isnt too young at all. Dunno what have you been watching.

As much as you wanna deny it. If the squad is all fit. Ole is a Sub.......

I wouldnt say Forlan is to young - but he hasnt settled in just yet.

Id be happy with someone like Batigol or Di Canio to tie us over the rest of the season, and then get a better striker in the summer.

I also think we should go for Bowyer if he is on a free. ;)

boywer? two letters : N O !

1) hes scum
2) he wont come cos he wont get a game as our midfield is the best in the prem along with arsenals
3) hes scum

Ronaldinho is a creater rather than scorer of goals. Ole is a better replacement if RVN is out for a month.

Not sure.

The issue seems to be about where a recognised striker would fit in. Is that a subject for debate more than a transfer issue?

Can't make my mind up so will leave it to someone else to decide. :)

That's not what is in dispute.

I would rather think of Ole as a rotation player rather than a sub.

and moreso, his ability to score goals means that we do not need a prolific striker to warm up the bench for Ruud. The new guy will get 30 games a year at the expense of Ole and no one can feel certain he'll produce the goods right away - considering the Veron incident. It could ultimately cost us some silverware come May.

it has seem to turn into an Ole slagging thread. It calls for a lock down IMO.

Totally agreed. Bellion will push OGS and Diego.

Is it just me, Or can everyone see how Vijay HAS to include the Scousers (and in particular Heskey) in EVERY post that he/she/it makes!

I am not scared for MU,even without RVN,OGS and DF they are still better then everyone else.If they want real goalscorer they should buy brazilian player Leandro Machado who plays in Flamengo I think. He is fecking beast!

Is a good striker going to want to come here just to be used in rotation??

Until we at least play 4-4-2 at home, there is no incentive for any striker.

We HAVE to start playing 4-4-2 more often or, as you say, we're not going to be able to attract a top class striker. When we play 4-5-1 in so many matches, we make ourselves too dependent on Ruud's form. And when it's off, like it has been these last few weeks, we're in a bind.

I don't think we get the best out of Ruud with a 4-5-1, but Ole and Diego are even less suited to the system. So, when Ruud's not playing well, what do we do?

If we try subbing Ruud with Ole/Diego and ask them to play as the lone striker, it's always going to be an uphill battle for them. If we go to 4-4-2 instead, well...why didn't we start off that way with Ruud?

And given the fact that Ole's best chance of getting a run of games these days is by playing on the right, and Diego's chances mostly come in Worthington Cup matches or when Ruud's injured...why would a top striker want to come here?

I have MUTV on and people are calling in saying we need another striker. Of course, we need another striker. But why don't we use the ones we have first??? What's the point of bringing in another striker to sit on the bench in a 4-5-1 system?

Agree that we won't buy a recognised striker at 20m+. Though I've expected someone who is around 22-28, playing regular first team football (may be in a lesser league), and have some Euro football exposure. So I'm surprised we are really going for Bellion. He may have some potential, but he may not be able to help us this season immediately.
