Selling Jaap to Lazio.
Selling Cole & Yorke to Rovers, if Teddy left we still had 4 strikers ruud, ole, yorke & cole.
We are the richest club but compare our squad to RealMadrid now and you will see the big gap.
It seems like Fegie does'nt have the last say in things although he is the manager and the executive is controlling the squad, because sometimes there is some strange decisions made in the club, like Diego. Why 12months ago if you perform the way he does you go to the reserves team and had to play your way back into the squad.

I actually think that selling Stam was a good bit of business. We made 6.5m profit for a player who was 29yo and who subsequently got banned for 6 months.

Also, if we had Stam, I don't know if we would have gone for Rio, who is a better player and much younger. Plus, we would probably not have got Larry who is teaching a lot to JO'S, the Nevs and Wes. Also, would JO'S have made the breakthrough if Stam was there?.

As for Yorkie, he was toilet at the end. His first season he was amazing, no doubting that. Yet in his second he scored twenty goals but that covers up the fact he struggled to score in the middle part of the season. For his last 2 years, he was nowhere. Got a great hat-trick against the Gooners but that was it.

I agree Cole would currently be useful, although he would have been very very unhappy at his lack of games.

I would've rather flushed away the 6m in exchange for winning the league and/or the CL.

I agree that Stam was good business. His performances had dropped off a bit and we made a profit.
Yorke had a great first season and then was not much more than average. He wasn't focussed on his football.
We should have tried to keep either Teddy or Andy Cole.
Diego is playing reasonably well. Its easy to throw up the fact that he has only scored once in 30+ apperances but how many minutes has he played and how many times has he come on to replace another striker. A lot of the time he replaces either Giggs or Becks so he's stuck out on the wing.

Cant's stop thinking about how great the partnership would have been if we had Rio and Stam in defence...

It's not a question of being wrong. Teams change, and evolve. How many people thought he was right to sell Ince, Hughes, and Kanchelskis? Not many!, but he was.
The man hasn't made that many mistakes so far, so trust him!

Not as good as Rio and John O'Shea

Too bad we will never get to know for sure.

Nope, but I'm quite pleased not to have anyone really blocking O'Shea's way to success.

I'm afraid I don't understand the topic. Does anyone expect Fergie to come out and admit 'I should not have sold Stam?'? I don't, and I'm non too please to hear about this time and time again.

Bad business, we are yet to receive £12million. Pathetic.

How can any one in the whole world think it was bad business. If it wasnt enough that he was detiorating quickly, his price tumbled straight after wards he went and got suspended for drug taking. We got a better defender in for 2 yrs to cover and within a yr of him departing we suddenly have the tightest defence in England!!!!!!!!!!
3 cheers for Fergie, hurrra hurrra hurrra

Thought the game is all about results and trophies, how have we done since Stam, Yorke, Cole and Sheringham have left?

& do you think that Stam staying would have made a iference? Try o remember the state of our defence in th emonths before his departure.
Face it, Stam was way over rated and Fergie is a genius to have earned on him.

Man, you have it bad - the only time I have the can't stop thinking syndrome is when I have met a new bird.

JAPP STAM was a Hero because of his image and the song we sang about him, not because of his ability, he was a average defender, no where near the class of Blanc, Pallister, Buchan, Mcgrath, Ferdinand. Selling him was a great piece of buisiness. <img src="graemlins/smirk.gif" border="0" alt="[Smirk]" />

I wonder if you say that for every player that leaves OT

Greatest thing since sliced bread when they are at OT, cast-offs when they leave - is that your usual trumpet call?

I find that better, correct and much more reassuring than second guessing the manager on something which cannot be proven.

Would we have been better off had Jaap stayed? We'll never know. So I'll back the manager's opinion and decision wholeheartedly.

No, Andy Cole would have been good to have around still for starters.
Stam had gone seriously downhill in his last yr or so with us. We got good money for him and we avoided being caught up in an extremely messy drugs scandal, briliant business, how can anyone say otherwise?

Of the recent departures.

Sheringham, never overly fond of him, thanks for the few yrs good luck at Spurs which is your home.
Yorke, loved you until the mile got too big and the spark died, good riddance.
Cole, at the time i thought it was good business, 8 mill for a 30 yr old but i thought Yorke would step back in but it wasnt to be.Its a shame hes gone.
Stam, we got good money for a bad player, who later got banned for drug use. It was also his decision to leave, Fergie was going to be gone in 8 months. He could have stuck it out and be back in the team now had his heart been in it, enjoy the signing on fee.
Irwin, different class, an all time great. Pity you didnt retire here and move to the backroom, hopefully you still will.

So 2 of 4 (50%) i still have time for. Signiicantly differs from your "all" (100%) hypothesis.
