Why bother with transfer silly season?

The two times a year when the transfer window is open is the worst time to be a football fan.

Newspapers continuously spewing bullshit to get people to buy in print or clickbait for their websites, people on twitter claiming they know that x is going to y and so on and yet nobody has a clue who is going where until it actually happens yet we all lap it up like fecking idiots.

The transfer forum should be deleted, all transfer talk should be banned and you should all take a break from football during the summer until the season starts again and we've got whoever we wanted to sign and that's that.

It's horrid right now and it's always the same.

The older I get, the more I see through the complete BS that 99.9% of speculation is.

I've been paying far less, barely any, attention to the rumours this season compared to last.

I still would like us to sign some good players but for me, Di Maria and Falcao both being shit has soured the excitement of big name signings.

I've definitely paid less attention to it over the years. It's always the same shite every year. The most transfer gossip I look at is opening Redcafe and seeing if there any threads about new signings on the front page.

I wouldn't delete it though, you're going to get a major spill of all the transfer gossipers going into other threads. Banning users for transfer talk isn't going to help.

August 8th can't come quickly enough.

It is the best time to be a football fan

Following the rumours, desecting what might be real and what is clearly bullshit. The excitment of getting a new player and having fun with the lign ups, imagining how the next season may look like and not only for your own team but also (with a bit less attention) for other teams.

It's the whole comedy of the window that I love - so much utter bullshit, political power-struggles and madness of the way clubs and the media operate throughout. It usually brings-out some good comments/gifs from posters here as well, with the occasional meltdown which is just as funny. It's not anything to take even remotely seriously.

The best thing about having the whole season in one part of the forum is that it is so, so easy for people who hate the whole thing to avoid it, and leave others to it.

It's quite easy to differentiate the bullshit, clickbait rumours to the ones that have a tiny bit of substance. Listen to the right people, take everything in 'the early stages' with a pinch of salt and don't, whatever you do, convince yourself anything is definite!

I think it's fun, personally.

I review what I read and decide 95% of it is bullshit. It is, however, an exciting time!

This is the absolute worst time. At least during the Winter window there is actual games. I really wish the transfer window was only July and one week in January.

I pretty much just ignore it, and only take interest once we've signed someone. Journalists coming on Talksport and claiming their story is from a reliable source blah blah blah, they should be taken to task for all the incorrect bullshit rumours they have produced in previous transfer windows, complete tossers.

Blimey, that's a bit of a personal question, isn't it?
Well, if you must know, I'm very shy and have trouble communicating with women, so I'm forced to do it to myself.

Agree with the OP - I've contemplated ignoring all speculation and just taking my seat for the first game and seeing who lines up but...it just isn't possible. I can't even go a day without loading up Newsnow. When I'm doing it I know it's a waste of time. I know I could be doing something better with my time. But I keep coming back. It's like crack. Free crack. Someone please help me.

It is the same in certain ways like Christmas shopping..

It is now more commercialised, we all fret over what to get for our loved ones.. Some finish their shopping early, some do it last minute, but the excitement of what we are getting as gifts keeps some of us eagerly looking forward to the day, while some others just want peace and quite and spend some time with family after years of lousy presents!!

Some folks love that time of the year and some don't.. I personally love the season..

Plus with no United games till pre season, this is what keeps me going during the off season with scraps of United news..

Can't help but get dragged in sometimes though, especially if its a player you're a fan of (Thiago, Sneijder 2010-11, Ronaldo's return, Benzema, Hazard, Moura) It adds excitement in the summer when there is no club football on, although a lot of the time its disappointing or boring.

It's not really interesting me so far this summer. I need a muppet signing like Vidal to latch onto. I'm not convinced by anything I've read so far.

Bullshit speculation does annoy me, but I'm too old to really get worked up about it.

What irritates me more is how angry people seem to get if United don't spend big and overhaul the squad completely. Fergie was quite conservative with transfers, 1-3 additions per year is fine. Can't stand the muppet meltdown from those (especially in here) who think we should replace 9 of our first team every season!

It's worked out pretty well for me with Memphis to have a muppet signing

Twitter just made the entire thing absurd. I still enjoy it though, mainly for the gif action.

It's better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all.

I wasn't going to bother this Summer until Ramos and Schweinsteiger came along. Now these sagas, they have potential.

Reading the rumours does not bother me or get me all excited. I can see people who have not been through a couple of windows being prone to fall for the nonsense. Anyone else has no excuse.

Its fun as long as you don't invest too much into it and see the silly season for just that.

Football Manager and other games are basically using the same concept that fans love to think that they know best, and know which players the club should sign etc...

It's brilliant fun, there will always be a saga and a good drama. I think you just have to take it for what it is. People will lie, agents will flirt and tabloids will be cnuts to sell, sell, sell. Only in the red cafe can you get people watching Chile vision tv at 4am to see if they can translate a news update on Arturo Vidal. We are all waiting for the next done dealio:lol: Nobody should not take it to heart, we have all season to do that. This is the best time of the year to be in the caf, keep the dodgy info coming:wenger:

This summer has been especially bad. All month there has been talk about Sterling and De Gea with no real movement on either front.

I hate it. Mostly because I fall for it every time. Start of the summer I'm like "I'm not believing ANYTHING until it's on the United site."

Then after about a week ... "United are signing Gundogan, Laporte, and a cyborg with the abilities of Pele? YES."

Wish I could hibernate from June to August.

We all know it's all bullshit and nonsense.

But then every so often, a load of news hits the fan and we sign a Mata, a Di Maria or a Falcao out of the blue.
It's great fun being along for the ride on those days!
