When the transfer targets have come up on mention. People have put Duff in the same sentence as Ronaldo. As if to say, We're either gonna get Ronaldo or Duff! It is not even a comparable situation! I like Duff, he had a good world cup, but I'm not convinced on the strength of that! He doesn't have any top class credentials like Ronaldo. He isn't in the same class....And the kind of class we should be looking in should be the brackets of Ronaldo, Crespo, Marco Di Vaio would be better than Duff.... even Adriano for Parma too... All World Class or future World Class players with a lot better technique and panache than Duff.... Buying Duff will only want to make Ferguson play that damned 4-5-1 formation AGAIN! I'm sick of Fergie trying to have the striker drop off Van. CANTONA's style is IRREPLACABLE!!! Stop trying to emulate that!

i don't really know what your point was but i don't want duff or ronaldo. im' kinda sick about the whole talk of the both of them to be honest...

The point was..... There are more adequate targets out there than Damien Duff! All Alex has to do is open up his eyes. Maybe Ronaldo would be too expensive, but is it too much to see that, Fiorentina have just been demoted to the depths of Serie C. We could get Chiesa or Gomes on a REAL cheap there as they are desperate. Then there is Marco Di Vaio! a guy who I have wanted to see come to Old Trafford for a few seasons now. All these players may cost less than Damien Duff and are all better players. Some more people we could get.....

Edilson - Really doing his thing in Brasil! Best goalscorer there. He's 29 which is only downfall BUT lets face it, it would take a whole lot of money to prise him away from Brasil as any money there is welcome due to their financial state.
Also wouldn't have a problem with work permit as he plays regularly enough with Brasil national team.

Adriano - I saw him in the U-20's He's a class apart as you may have saw against Barcelona. Being only 19 and joining a club like Man Utd right now could be beneficial to his career! Let's face it, Inter need money anyway as they have asked certain players to take paycut. They'll be looking to make wage cuts here and there, and rather than wasting loads on Ronaldo, you could get the guy who could prove to be the new Ronaldo for about 5 or so million. Good transfer accumen!

Oh yeah? What about buying Ronaldo and him getting this freakin' knee injury once again. He's £40M and Duff is £15M and he's still 23. Come on maaaaaaan, Duff is the one we really need.

Yeah but you gotta ask yourself, is he good enough to play in the position that we need him to? I much prefer Di Vaio, from Parma like I said.. Duff is good......But He's not really a striker is he? He did well to adapt to a behind the front man role in the World Cup, but we should be aiming for someone to play WITH Van and not just to compliment, and link up with Midfield. I just get the feeling Ferguson is trying to bring back the Cantona thing, with the forward dropping deep, but Cantona was in a class of his own! He could make that work!

Van the man was a risk just as much as Ronaldo would be but... That's a calcluate risk the board have to take into consideration.

Duff is £15M - more like 15m and a player or 20m cash. yes duff is all of 2yrs younger than the two time world player of the year , who in a week could score more than the 7 goals duff got at blkbrn all season. ruud's knee was as dodgy when saf signed him - 40m is a lot of money but 20m is a lot of money too.

Great! See that's the point I'm trying to make!
There are guys in our reserves that given the chance could do just as much in the same position as Duff! Eg..... Bojan Djordic. He has all the skills that Duff has, that's not even worth disputing! All he needs what Duff already has, is some exposure! If you were going for a Duff type player than we can save money by giving Djordjic a run out. If were serious about winning things again, it's going to take someone a LOT better than the kid Damien Duff. I would like to see some youth get a REAL chance this season.

Its not that we need a creative attacker cos our midfield does enough creating. What we OFTEN REALLY BADLY struggle with is that the midfield and attack aren't linked up well enough.

I put that down to losing Andy Cole and losing his movement etc. Its harder for our midfielders to get the ball from the back and get it to the front cos the movement of Ruud and Ole doesnt create as much space and opportunity.

We could coped without a link up man as long as we had Cole or someone similar. But with what we have, you're gonna need a link up man, and you saw how well Giggs did there and how it boosted the team. Too bad Giggs is a terrible striker. Duff however isnt, he holds the ball better than RVN! His pace could scare people and he can score plus provide that link up better than Giggs.

But any link up man could do it, Teddy, Yorke both link up men, neither of them like Cantona's style. Its the role that makes our team. Too often attacks are cut out before they reach our strikers, that wouldnt happen with a good link up man.

Also Duff would provide the other thing we lack, and thats a Michael Owen type player. He could be our Owen.

that could very well be , but consider that ronaldo could be our ronaldo.

I wasnt comparing him to Ronaldo, I was just saying why he is mentioned as one of the top targets - answering the post thats all.

Ronaldo is the best in the world, we'd all love him here, including Fergie and Kenyon. He would complete our front line. I'm not counting on it tho.

i know just having fun m8

but in watching some replays from last season you're spot on w/ cole's movement off the ball. (at white heart lane in particular). MU need some speed up top. ronaldo has speed and power , duff has speed and great ball skills. and giggs is not the answer at striker!

Ronaldo has all the things Duff dosen't have. He is a winner, a Brazillian andthe most powerful forward in the World on top from. (The onlt thing they have in common is speed and ball skills. Plus two footedeness i think)

this all just seems pointless because we aren't going to get either...and if we do get one it won't ever be worth the price we paid.

Ronaldo got it twice!

£40M is a waste!!! We could get Duff and a world class defender with less than this amount...

I should agree that Ronaldo is a fabulous player, he scored 7 goals in one week etc., but how many goals did he score since 2-3 years?

although Di Vaio is good, with 20 goals last season, i doubt his team work capability!! he likes to do it ALL by HIMSELF... this isn't gonna be tolerated in the team, at least to me. <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" />

actually any Brazilian lingering in the streets would be a good striker.

They're natural footballers with the gift to score, so i guess it would take just a bit of luck and recognition and they'll be able to get into the National Team and win honours...

Hmm, so perhaps Fergie should go for a downtown trip in Rio de Janeiro and search for a street-striker kicking metal cans..

Cost? 1 penny + air ticket..LOL

I think thats why we got the new Brazilian coach for the youth team....his contacts may bring us the next Ronaldo before he becomes a 40 million pound player.

Duff would suite us fine at about 10 to 12 million but I dont think it is going to happen.

duff would be an ideal squad player and would be cover for both side for either giggs and becks has two good feet and can run at people but not worth 20mil
