Why can't I see the Newbie Forum?

Not that I want to go back there, or to post there, but it would be nice to be able to see what is going on. Plenty of other people seem to be able to see it, but when i try to access a thread in there I get 'You do not have permission to access this page.' I can't even see my own posts from when I was in there by doing a search for all my posts.

I was trying to look over the 'God I hate America' thread after all the recent controversy. People are always pointing out threads from the Newbie forum though and I just wondered why they can see them and I can't.

No, no-one has threatened to ban me or anything. There is no hint of controversy or wrongdoing associated with this thread, I just wondered why I can't see the Newbie forum is all.

Just log out and view the forum as a guest.

I can see the Newbie forum tho, even when I'm logged in.

Which is what I find so odd about it. Can a mod explain this please?

I can't see any way of logging in as a guest either.

If you really want to view the Newbie forum (I can't see why, as it's full of crap, no offense), you'll just have to log out entirely. The Log Out button is in the bar that contains your User CP.

If that doesn't work, then I don't know how to help you. :annoyed:

Merry Christmas anyway!

I can see the newbie forum but you can't view any forum as a guest anymore. You have to log in or register otherwise you can't even view the forums.

:xmas-redf Sorry, my mistake.

There's another way... I'm gonna whisper it. :nervous:

Use another login name.

When the newbie was set up initially only the newbies, Mods and a handful of less contentious posters could view and post in there. Newly promoted newbies could still view and post there until they hit 150 posts and then the place vanished for them putting them on the same footing as everyone else.

During one of our invasions we tried to block new registrations and something went awry with the newbie forum so that everyone could see and post there. We have tried to fix things and now only the correct people can post there but it seems most can still see the place.

In a few cases where I have promoted newbies they have asked to be allowed to finish their debates in the newbie as the 150 grace period also became shagged by our meddling, I have set them manually to allow posting for a while and then changed them back a few weeks later if I remembered. I suspect you were one of these as your access permission had been set to no for the newbie rather than default. You should now have the same access as everyone else as I have reset you to default.

Bury youre too soft, i set them all to no as opposed to default ;)

Kelvin, multiple aliases are the bain of our existence here at times. If you are using a second one id suggest you dont as some people have had the IP range blocked as opposed to one ID in the past.

I don't.

Used to have one a long time ago, before I wised up.

But don't a lot of posters around here have two or more logins? Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't StanTA and StanleyRoad one and the same?
