What are so scared of?
The frightening truth is.........

Keane - 31
Ole - 29 not far off 30
Becks - 27
Scholes - 27
Butt - 27
Giggs - 28

In theory the midfield should be starting to peak right about now up until 30, but with all the messing around trying to implement the 4-5-1 formation I fear that these players are not going to excel in their peak because of it. I mean, Scholes isn't playing to the quality that he used two up to two seasons ago. Giggs doesn't. Beckham is so and so, but doesn't excel. Butt's coming into his own, thankfully! But there doesn't seem any sign of Ferguson, blending anyone in.
Like against the Boro. We we're playing pretty awful in the second half and Chadders was on the bench. Why not give him a run out so he can try and make something of himself? I can't remember how many potential stars we have had at Old Trafford that have just not developed at Old Trafford and have moved on. Surely this is because of lack of opportunity in the first team!

has anyone hit the heights since we let them go? i think the brazilian has been brought in because of a dearth of real youth talent. dont tell me about djordjic coz he's overrated. :)

:) Yeah I know!! DJordic is overrated! If he was good enough then at 21? he would be figuring somewhere in the first team by now! Not going out on loan to the Swedish division. The thing is...... We always get good talent capable of becoming good. But it's down to the coaching in the end! If the coaches are not good enough, then the players just will not develop! The key to a player progressing into a Premiership class player is down to the coaching! Most coaches will tell you that themselves. Thank god we have got Queiroz and Filho in the ranks this year to see what they do.
The thing is.... We have Webber to Watford on loan, and I saw him and he looks promising! So..... Because we are lacking in cover up front, why not at least use him on our bench and give him some sub appearances just to see how he handles first team action! It's up to the player whether he runs with the ball, or drops it, but at least you can say he was given that chance!

Great Post

I agree - and if you want to feel better take a look at the interview with Queiroz on Soccernet today - as the man who developed the Portuguese youth team that produced the likes of Figo and Rui costa you gotta belive this is someone who knows the importance of having good young home produced players break through the ranks. I believe Fergie understands this - but hasn't had good enough players (or sometimes fit enough players in the case of Brown) to justify benching the regular players. Let's face it since Kidd left we haven't had a natural youth coach - Mcclaren was a great appointment but he's really the guy to get the most out of the established player rather than bring along the next generation.

I agree with sunny, Danny Webber looks like a great prospect, but i think leaving him on loan is doing him more good than sitting on our bench every week. While he's a Watford as long as he's fit he'll start and it gives the management team a better chance to assess him than playing for our reserves.
The one player i think we may be in danger of losing is Michael Stewart. He captained Scotland U21's tonight, playing with players who are getting regular in their team 1st team. It may start to pray on his mind that despite him captaining the U21's he can't break through to the first team.
The two new coaches will seriously help develop our youngsters and with football financies so unstable i think it may be a while before Sir Alex is allowed to spend the big money like he has in the last 15 months.

He plays in central midfield, Admittedly we're not short of central midfielders but this guy has a lot of potential and i think should be given a chance

the players who r good enough will play, look at oshea, he is good enough so he plays, stewart is good but i dont think he will break though, chadwick is too skinny and ferguson doesn't rate webber. at the end of the day he knows best.

I don't think Chadwick will make a break through. I'd like to see Stewart given a chance. I saw him against Ipswich last season. Unfortunately he had to go off injured but he was very impressive before he had to go off. He's also been good for Scotland over the past few matches.
I'll reserve my judgement on Webber, from the reports i've read and the Coventry match (live on sky) he's really impressed so i'd like to see him next season when he has a full season under his belt. Hopefully Watford can put a cup run together so he can play against so top class opposition. See how he cope with premiership defences. The first division is strong this year so if he does well i'd like to see Sir Alex give him a chance.

When we play 4-4-2, two from Keane, Butt, Veron and Scholes miss out. When we play 4-5-1 Ole misses out. These five players are clearly ahead of Stewart so he will struggle to get games. Keano's injury might give him a chance though.

The really frustrating thing is that we are overstocked in central midfield and that is where our most promising youngsters seem to be. Wouldn't it be great if Stewart was a striker?

Question.
I have read reports about Kieron Richardson, Mads Timms and Darren Fletcher. Are they all central midfielders or could they play elsewhere? I think Richardson can play left wing but is only 17(?) so I doubt he will challenge Giggsy just yet.

I think Richardson and Timm are strikers. But not altogether sure and Darren Fletcher is more of a right sided midfielder. Mads Timm (17 i think) is still very young and could be a few years from a premiership debut

Those who are good enough do/will get their chance.

The others won't.

For the original poster: we are already giving young players such as O'Shea and Chadwick chances in last two years. The basic requirement is that the young player must be exceptionally good in order to break into United now, because we can no longer afford to blood in four or five young players just as 6 or 7 years ago. The reason is the standard of the whole Premiership is rising year after year, and you can see from last season that, we lost points nearly every time we put in a weakened team in a league match.

In the current 20-22 young players I can only see O'Shea will definitely break through, Chadwick will have a chance if he improve his strength and last touch, while other players, like Stewart and Djorjdic, seems too ordinary at this moment.
