Why are match highlights so short these days?

Anyone noticed this in the last few years?

Sky Sports and TNT highlights are rarely ever longer than 3 minutes. They essentially only include the goals and barely any replays of them. It’s so hard to get a feel for a game by watching them. Awful stuff. There’s hardly any build up to any goals as well. It just very jarringly starts about 4 or 5 seconds before a goal is scored. Whatever happened to extended highlights? Even something at 5-6 minutes would be nice.

This game has 5 goals and a red card and yet the length of the video is 2:52. You just about see a replay of a goal before it abruptly cuts to the next thing.

Have you watched our games lately? Even finding 3 minutes is a stretch.

In all seriousness, probably a result of needing to get something out within 20 seconds of the final whistle to ensure clicks. Less time to put together longer videos.

I'm sure I read that with certain ones on youtube and such they only have permission to do 3 minutes.

Bundesliga highlights are about 1 minute. Think it's their official page too. Never really understood why

That would track. Looking now all the games from tonight are either dead on 3 mins or under. Wonder why that is and what prevents them from also doing an extended highlight a bit later.

It's just the way the world is going. When the iFoot is released next year, all highlights will only be as long as it takes a person to tie a shoelace, as this will be the screen time football competes with.

it’s because modern football is just running, and no one wants to watch running, even when it involved watching paula radcliffe take steamy pisses on the sainted streets of the world’s capital.

I think that's correct and it's to do with the rights. Match of the Day and similar paying for exclusivity on the longer highlights for a certain period of time.

Longer highlights do often pop up on a club's youtube page rather than a brodcasters but not until the next day or 2 days later. They're about 10 minutes in length.

Think United don't even do that, they hide the longer stuff on MUTV. Some others don't bother either.
