I reckon AF will now look at Duff, weve needed cover for Giggsy for a while, and perhaps a full back. Anyone else got any suggestions? Or is Rio it

I would agree with you Raoul, but also, I'm keeping an eye on the Rivaldo situation, reportedly, they're willing to let him go for free, to eradicate his hefty wages.
Real are said to be interested but, barca would veto any such move, preferably wanting him to move abroad.
Could be an interesting proposal, Rivaldo on a free transfer, can play on the left, and in the link striker role more importantly, fergie a known past admirer, still has three seasons in him yet and is one of the only world class players that can play that link role, that would give us back that "sheringham" option that fergie wants to play with ruud...

In a perfect world I'd love to see us make a deal with Blackburn for Duff offering Disco + a few million. BBC quotes Souness as saying that Duff is available at the right price.
i agree with raoul .. sorin and duff wld be enuff ... though a crespo or ronaldinho wld be great but i doubt so!!!

Unless we sell I can't see us buying any further players this summer.
A versatile midfielder like Duff and a replacement for Denis would do the trick for this year. Striker and Larry replacement next year.
Recber will be the first imo, we've previously bid for him, his club have now put him up for sale so I don't think it will take long. Barthez will leave soon after.
Liverpool have stolen the march on us regarding Duff, unless we've been talking to them about him while sorting out the Yorke transfer (should be complete in the next few days). Will be interesting to see if we put in an official bid for him.

We've apparently already talked to Souness about Yorke moving to BB, so the communication has already been established between the clubs. Now all we need is for someone to float the idea of a player plus cash swap. We could sell Fortune to offset some of the fee as well.
Duffy first and foremost ... at fullback I actually think we are in the position which we could at least "wait a bit more" ... at worst player like Roche and Thiery will be able to step in ... that's how players like Stephen Wright and Cole come into the Soucers & Arse team previously ..
We defintely need a strong front line to go into the hectic season ... and Duff will be ideal .. being an straight forward choice to cover Giggsy and able to play in the hole behind the front striker ...

yep, but this time i think we can realistically say that this may happen,lets just hope we go for him and he hates Real so much that he comes to us.

Not convinced by all this. I can't see us shelling out for Duff, Rio and A. Fullback without any major sales. Even last year we only really spent about £10m when you subtract the sale of Stam etc.
It's hard to see who we're going to sell big name players to, which kind of rules out shifting Veron or Scholes or [insert crazy rumour here]. Fortune and Yorke maybe to other Premiership clubs but nobody on the continent has the money to buy big at the moment.
We can probably do without Duff - it's not as if we have problems scoring goals. Our problem has been controlling games from the back. We need a fullback more, plus a cheap over-32 year old 4th striker like Teddy.

We haven't spent that much if you take into account the money we got or will eventually get for Stam.
The Stam money is applicable only to last years transfer budget, yes ? eg. same as Ruud last year.
But didn't they say the Stam money was only going to be spent on another defender?
I haven't heard that. I think the Stam money was originally meant to offset the purchases of Seba and Carroll last year. Unfortunately it didn't quite work out that way, as Lazio apparently haven't paid up yet.

That would be really too ambitious IMO ... either Eidur + Sorin and that will already be the greatest off-season coup for many seasons now ... matching the one just before the Treble started ...
With Rio 30mil ( although only reported 14.9mil immediate payment ) ... I think it's really not possible for anything so much ..
