Who Wants To Be A Number 9....

With all the speculation linking Manchester United to every available striker across the globe, the actual reality of who SAF might bring in to fill the illusive number 9 Old Trafford shirt is non the clearer.

Possible targets that have been mentioned, to differing degrees of fact are players such as;

Cisse
Bellion
Kaka
Shevchenko
Guvon (I apologise for the spelling)
Lopez
Defoe
Kluivert
etc...

Obviously with the host of star names being linked ot Ot as per usually, the question is who do we really want to fill our number 9 jersey...I'm interested to hear your thoughts and opinions, with regards to who you would like to see in the number 9 shirt and who who think we will actually get.

My own persoanl opinion is that I would love to see Cisse of Auxerre @ OT next season and I think he is who we will get. He has pace, skill and great finishing ability all factors that are important in any striker. I think he will be the best striker in the world within the next 3 yrs and I just hope it is at our club, that this star in the making fulfills his massive potential.

If not Cisse, my sorces tell me we are closely monitoring Kaka, the Brazilian world cup starlet, but to be honest the information is sketchy...

My money is on Bellion, but my choice is Defoe, especially if West Ham go down.

Usual question then. Who drops out.

Dafeo, Joe Cole & Trevor Sincler...i don't mind f Cole or Sincler got the no.9 shirt...great talents.

I'd love to see us get DeFoe if West Ham go down, and Cisse should be a main target, and is much more likely then ppl like Shevchenko

Some good players on that list, but realistically -one quality forward and we would be set.
Cisse is probably top of the list, because we need a Pacy quality forward to add another dimension to the attack, give him free reign like Henry has for the Arsenal. Plus the goals a fast forward will score in counterattacks.
Fergie has highlighted that we do not have as athletic a team as Arsenal, or Liverpool, Cisse would improve that.

BTW isn't Kaka more a midfielder, though he is excellent, strong too.

You're right. Kaka is a very talented midfielder who currently plays for Sao Paulo. Definitely not a striker.

My choice would be Shevchenko. If not possible, then Cisse.

RVN and Sheva together would be dynamite.

My choice has to be Cisse, no doubt, id like Defoe or Bellion as well but Cisse is who i really want.

Would love Shevchenko at United i would guess he was just as quick as Henry.Seen him a few times for Ac Milan this season and think he would do the job brilliantly with Ruud.

If United want a conventional target man, then Crespo or Vieri. In the current depressed market, the fee would not be a problem, just the wages and the lifestyle preferences of any transfer targets.

If United want a pacy striker, then Cisse or Shevchenko. Cisse is very raw, so suppose it depends upon how United do this season as regards winning trophies. Can still get Bellion almost free and have him as a 5th striker.

If United want a 2nd striker, then I would go for Pablo Aimar. He is vastly superior to Ronaldinho and has a bit of steel. Besides, Ronaldinho is a Dwight Yorke part 2 in his facial similiarity.

If I had my choice, I would get Pablo Aimar and Christian Vieri. If only...

Still Bellion - put all my money down there ;)
Not saying that I don't like others ... Cisse/Defoe both suit for me ... but I am just looking for the most economical and logical choice in Bellion ... Cisse - I think he will command a rocket-high fees even in this market ... Defoe could be well in the affordable range if WH really get relegated ..

Im sorry but I really dont agree with your analysis of the siuation. If there is one club in global football that have money to spend and indeed can afford to spend on players whilst still having a situation of fiscal security, its Manchester United. I was watching Oliver Holt and Henry Winter, two respected footballing journalists who both stated the isssue that Man Utd are probably in the strongest position in the transfer market.

The depressed transfer market will mean that clubs such as Auxerre, the proto-typical selling club, will have to sell their assets @ far reduced rates than previously experienced. This will benefit ourselves as logically samller bids will tempt clubs, needing to sell.

Furthermore our buying policy over the past two to three seasons especially has seen us go out and purchase big name players, Ferdinand, Van Nistelrooy, Veron, Yorke... You cannot convince me that @ the point where we are probably @ our most strongest, froma transfer perspective, that we will in our search for a number 9 go for Bellion and him alone! No way... personally as I have been stating all throughout this season, I think we will go for Cisse and get him for around the £12-£15m mark! Which for a player of his age, skill and class is a steal, but in todays market might be the biggest priced transfer of the summer!

i already get used to see ole in 20, and nothing will change, i love ole in 20, that makes him a baby

Apparently Ruud has named Vieri as his ideal partner. I would have preferred Shevchenko, but Vieri, even for £20m would eb a great signing. (Or is he a bit old for that much?)

vieri is 29 but I doubt £20 million would be enough as he cost £32 million in 1999...

he is seria a's top scorer with 19 (2 pens) and the closest to him is delpoero on 12 (3 pens) also Inter would not want to loose a top star after loosing ronaldo in last summers most drawn out transfer
