With a mid season world cup coming up soon we have a lot of players on the fringes of their international teams. This could work to our favor as players will have to perform to be picked.

The English : Maguire, Shaw, Rashford and Sancho all playing for a spot.

Maguire is probably the most certain of a ticket to Qatar. Probably only room for one of Rashford or Sancho though.

The Rest: Donny, Malacia, De Gea, Martial, Garnacho, Pellestri.

De Gea will be in the squad but can he reclaim the number one jersey by playing in a more progressive system? The dutch lads will need game time to impress LVG and Martial will have to maintain his pre season form. Our two young South American wingers have an outside chance as well.

Who makes it and who doesn't?

Jones will have a revival at CB, become an important player for us and then Southgate will play him on the right wing at the world cup.

I’d rather none of ours went and they had a good mid-season rest and extra training

I'd rather they don't go either but that's pretty unlikely. Hopefully they at least perform well enough for us to force a headache for the national team managers.

Argentina: Martinez will make it
Brazil: probably Fred
Uruguay: Pellistri may
Portugal: Ronaldo and Bruno for sure, maybe Dalot
France: Varane may do, Martial with an outside chance
Tunisia: Hannibal
Denmark: Eriksen
England: Maguire, Shaw, Sancho, Rashford all have a chance
Spain: de Gea will
Netherlands: Malacia may do

De Gea didn't make the last Spain squad so not sure why people think he's a guarantee for the World Cup.
Because people convince themselves he's a top level goalkeeper and couldn't possibly be a worse option than the Brighton and Brentford goalkeepers.

Rashford would have to play great in August to have a chance. Right now I don't think he is even on the Southgate's radar.

Martial no way.

Shaw has a slight chance.

Maguire will make it.

Charlie Savage for Wales - we need midfielders so his pre season form is enough already

My guess, of the 1st 11/2nd 11 players.

De Gea - no
Heaton - no

Dalot - yes
AWB - no
Maguire - yes
Varane - yes
Martinez - yes
Lindelof - no
Shaw - yes
Malacia - yes

Fred - yes
McTominay - no
Eriksen - yes
Bruno - yes
Van de Beek - no
Garner - no

Sancho - yes
Rashford - no
Martial - no
Ronaldo - yes
Elanga - no

Not a confident yes for Sancho, and Martial has been in and out of the french squad for a while so he's a maybe, but my guess. I think Sancho will be brilliant right from the off and Southgate won't be able to leave him out, but he'll leave out Rashford. If Martial is starting for United and stays fit, I think he might well go. Shaw will go as long as he's fit, he's an instant starter when he isn't injured.
