Who is our set piece coach?

How can Bruno be that consistently terrible at corners yet he takes them? Is he putting them in consistently amazing all week in training then passing it to the near post defender to hoof clear comfortably on match days?
Are the coaches leaving it up to the players to decide? Amad was putting dangerous balls in from his side, so why is he not going across the other side? I'd rather have an out swinger that beats the first man. The shortest player who's less of a threat from corners, and can deliver a great corner, isn't taking them or taking freekicks. Is Bruno pulling rank?

I'm sick to death of this team that can barely make five passes before gifting it away, causing no threat almost every time we have set pieces in good areas. Something has to give here.

It's not just corners. He takes all of our freekicks as well. The vast majority end up in the stands. He has hit the bar a few times, but most aren't near to the corner of the goal.
Of our usual starting players (not counting Amad), I guess he's just the best we have, and he's obviously nowhere near good enough at them. I don't think the coaching staff would allow Bruno to keep taking them if he wasn't the best taker. He could very well be doing better in training and that quality isn't corresponding to matchdays.

We have seen Amad put in some good corners now. Hopefully he will be given preference. Even if it means it's an outswinger.

It's still shocking how much our own corners have ended up becoming a very dangerous opportunity for the opposition over the years.

The vast majority of anyone's direct freekicks end up in the stands. And his indirects are generally excellent.

I don't have a problem with Bruno taking free kicks, he usually does okay in those.

Direct free kicks we could use a change, I can't remember him scoring besides that one in the cup against Liverpool.

With the corners I'd rather throw them away, it seems every single one Bruno takes end ups in the first man stop it becoming a dangerous counterattack for the opposition. He simply can't lift the ball, doesn't have the strength in his leg or I don't know what it's going on but he's simply awful at them.

Amad's shown he takes better corners and haven't seen his free kicks but we should give someone else a try. I think Bruno's status is the one thing keeping him at the designed taker and nothing else.

Even if we ignore the fact that Onana was probably fouled, why are none of our players protecting him and shoving the opponents away? Look at the replay. Half of our players are marking no one!! What on earth is going on?

Not generally inclined to blame Amorim for much at the moment, but one thing I think we can validly point to is the fact that we don't currently have a specialist coach in charge of set pieces.

While it's possible to be good at set-pieces without a specialist coach (I'm not sure Liverpool have one, for example) it is best practice as teams with specialist coaches tend to do better.

And (as with Ange at Spurs) when you're clearly struggling at set pieces it then not having a dedicated coach for them becomes an issue for the manager.

Forgetting conceding about corners for a second because we all know we are poor.

Why don't we ever look a threat from corners ourselves?

Because both our poor defending and attacking stem from the same thing. I don't even think it's much to do about our set piece coaches, we've had a number of them. I don't think its to do with our managers as we've had similar issues under most of them. As a lot of the issues at United do, a lot of them go back to the players. We don't have the tallest team, regularly play with a 5ft9 CB. Sometimes we play with a giant striker who genuinely is poor/afraid of heading in Zirkzee, another forward in Rasmus who can't win a dual with a defender in open play let alone when defending. This team is so passive, so lacking physicality when in open play, its not a surprise that they are the same when defending set pieces.

Do we have a set piece coach? Time to look for a new one if so..
