There's nobody down here mate!
I would go for Becks as he is England captain, in reasonable form and likely to start every game while Roy is out. Giggs doesn't really inspire me at the moment and Rio is too new to the rest of the team (he captains the defence anyway).

Do you mean while Keane is out?

I'd like Rio. But Keane is United's captain.

Rio? Why? Even in England Beckham is ahead of Rio as the captain. I also agree to make Becks as captain when Keano is out. He is Red thru and thru, his performance rise when given the captaincy, and he is the most natural successor to Keano's captain armband after he retired several years later.

Rio's one for the future IMO..more natural leader than Becks

I don't agree with Giggs as vice captain. He is not vocal enough and is not playing well in my opinion.Beckham as stand in for Keano.Rio about 3-5 years down the line may be captain.

"Giggs is the stand-in captain"

was last season, but not in preseason. We will see what will happen tonight. I would give the armband either to giggs or becks; Rio would be a joke imo (very young and 2 months at the club) and won`t happen.

Philip Neville

;)

Nah in all seriousness they should give it to Becks. Might be a bit of a kick in the arse to him to lift his game even more with the inspirational Roy Keane out.

Becks was captain pre season when Keano was out, so I think he will be captain tonight !

Agreed, Giggs isn't an inspirational captain, he only gets it because he's been with us so long. Becks can lift a team, and captaincy lifts his performances too.

I think Giggs should get it because I feel he needs to add a bit more determination to his game. Beckham has been on a par with Keane so far this season. Not saying I don't feel Beckham deserves it, because he does, but I feel Giggs needs to add to his game and the cataincy might do it.

Becks while Roy's out. No doubt SAF has consulted keane on this during the last year. is prob why Becks seems vice-cptn this year. Becks IS a natural leader. there are more than one type of leader, and to have becks as cptn will probably be better for us for a while anyway, different syle and has Roy's blessing.

giggs doesn't seem to be a natural leader or motivator while out on the pitch. he doesn't seem to have the ability to lead on the squad when it needs it.

When he is back in two weeks there is only one candidate in my book - Gary Neville.

Experienced, committed, vocal, well-respected and passionate about the shirt. To be honest, I'd have him as England captain as well.

I agree - and note that it was Bekham who went public last night on MUTV stating that "all the lads" were behind Keane - nothing happens by accident in Fortress Ferguson

Right Gary should be an obvious choice when he's back but at this moment my choice would be Giggs if Keane was out for 3 months!

This issue was raised when we signed Rio, for some reason, I forget what.

I went for Beckham then, and I'm sticking with that. Rio's a great leader, but Beckham's proven with England what the responsabilty of being captain can do to his game.

It's funny - the opposite happened back in 1982/3 - Ray Wilkins, the "Beckham" of our team was out for months with a fractured cheekbone and replaced by Robbo - Wilkins returned to the team but was ever again the central man (Robbo was clearly the better player) - a lengthy spell out will change the balance of power in this team - Keane will get the armband back but - espaecially if the team does well without him - will be more of a "first amongst equals"

Fully agreed. well respected player. Good organiser. United have missed him.

Becks in the meantime though.

Dont expect it .. but i wonder what being captian do for nicky butt's confidence and level of play.

Butty should be Captain of Pele's dream Team - nothing else - he's a good player for but not a captain in this squad of players that grew up with him

It has to be Becks. He been fantastic as England captain. The players repect him and unlike Giggs his work rate can never questioned.

Giggs is the Vice Captain, so logically he is going to be Captain in Keano's absence. However I would prefer Gaz Neville who is due back I believe in a couple of weeks. He would be much more competent than Becks or others.

Being Captain could be the push Giggs needs to get himself together!

GIGGS IS THE ONLY CHOICE!
