iv,e read the comments on the ryan giggs supposed 25 million move , but who do we realy support is it the team or the players ,when they play for us we worship their every move ,not a bad word can be said against them, when they move on to another club do we still support them in the same way ,they dont wear are shirt anymore so why should we , all players have there sell bye date 25 million for giggsy snap there hands off WE SUPPORT UNITED WE WANT THE BEST love giggys to bits but somtimes i think people on this forum put players befor club ,players come and go united stays -comments?

To clarify I agree with the opening post. We are United, the supporters. We will always be here as will the club. The players will not, though some will undoubtedly remain dear to us for many years perhaps more so once they retire and we look back on their careers. There is no real room for sentiment where the here and now is concerned though.

He didnt, but if he had i wouldnt have pissed on him if he was on fire.
Some things you just dont do, i could understand the Barca fans last Sunday. Figo did the unforgivable, calling him a bollox isnt enough for him.

it goes with out saying, for me, that the club supercedes any individual player. However whilst players are still here, especially those such as Giggs with his long service history, there will be strong feelings about his moving on. Some are able to be more objective & seem capable of coming to a position which to others seems ungrategul & disloyal. On the Giggs issue specifically some have well argued reasons why he should stay. The size of the sum being bandied about at this stage in his career & with him not playing at his best means IMO that an argument on both sides has to be reasonable...I just hope we have options which are realistic if he goes. I'd miss him personally but Utd is still here...same goes for keano, beckham or whoever

I support whoever wears the red shirt of United, when they have gone....

My first hero was Brian Kidd and I was very upset when he left.

A few years later I was walking down a street in Birkenhead and some kids were playing football. One said "I'll be Brian Kidd". I was shocked that someone wanted to be such an obscure player. Then I realised that Kiddo was playing for Everton. Then I remembered how important he had been to me. From my hero to just another player in three or four years.

When Ryan goes we will get over it, we always do. Legends like Best, Law, Charlton, Robbo, Eric, Schmikes and others have come and gone but United (like old man river) keep on rolling along.

besides we'd never get more than 12 for giggsy these days

So if he went for 12m who on earth could we get at that price to adequately replace him? What you have to do is allow someone like Richardson as much chance to develop over the next couple of seasons and really challenge for Ryan's position. It then becomes a natural progression. Younger players coming in, proving themselves and gradually replacing the older ones on merit. This means you have to continue developing the supply line from the youth set up, supplementing it with one or two young bargains from abroad. You simply can't get rid of players without much thought to their replacements. You also have to bear in mind that younger replacements who are already established stars and could go straight into our first side will generally cost more than what we will get for the ones you want to get rid of in the current squad. Not a great business proposition either.

Where the hell can they get 25m from?

Twenty-Five Million pounds?

How much did they get for Rinaldo?

21 million wasn't it and two Real players at the end of the season.

When I was a kid Gordon Hill was my hero and I`ve hated Sexton ever since for selling him(strong I know but...)but he did go and off the top of my head I can`t remember where he went and there I was the week after screaming at the radio.

Within 3-5 years Fergie,Giggsy,Keano,Ole all gone Becks, scholesy,Nicky, all being slagged off on here for being past it but we will be here still talkin crap and supportin the shirts(except the Beckham fans obviously)

JD tho has a point in that we couldn`t get a player for the money we would get for Giggsy who could fill his role and lets not forget Giggsy still makes you hold your breath when he starts on a run with the ball.I think there is still plenty of mileage left in him yet.

Or am I being sentimental?

What if the youth system doesn't produce a replacement though? SAF will know there or there about whether we have a left wing player good enough to challenge for Giggs's place. If we haven't then there will be no other option to buy one. The rest is down to the money men either saying sell first, or here's the cash.

And there is no way that the youth system is once again going to produce a line like Giggs, Scholes, Butt, Beckham. Not a chance, most will have to be replaced with purchases. This will become very expensive to do all in one go, as they are all around the same age and will all probably go at around the same age.

Difficult, but difficult decisions have to be made. They will all be gone one day anyway. :(

Its hard to say whats going to happen with the youth system.I have`nt got mutv and the reserves have moved from bury so I couldn`t` get to the matches on time but from what I`ve seen Richardson looks like he`ll make it.Roche looks skillful and confident,Wes and O`Shea are there or there abouts so thats four but they need the chance in the first team against premier opposition like the last lot had and I can`t see that happening.

It's a point of course but I was talking about the ideal situation which of course Fergie is well aware of. In fact to support your contention, the youth system has only produced three players in the last ten years, Phil, Wes & JOS who have "made it", with Luke struggling somewhat to join them but seemingly not quite making it. That's why I said you've got to look for young bargains like Wenger does, probably from abroad because of local restrictions, who don't mind starting off in our reserves and developing from there with a view to specifically taking over from particular current first teamers in the future when they reach their sell by dates. Otherwise, you're faced with getting the cheque book out and as United almost always find these days, paying through the nose for a replacement. Personally, I don't think Ryan or anyone else of that era has reached his sell by date yet. Perhaps Barthez, with difficulty depending on just how good Ricardo actually is, & Blanc could be replaced in the summer and it probably wouldn't hurt the squad if Phil, despite his splendid attitude and work rate, as well as Luke were jettisoned also but that's about it as things stand at the moment I would think.

Of course there's no qustion that whatever changes are made and whoever ultimately lines up for United will have our full support.

The press were linking the Uraguayan in with the deal. don't remember much of him from the world cup, but that goal he scored against the geordies the other night was nothing but beautiful.

That was Almeyda an Argentinian. No thanks although it's not fair to paint them all with the same brush I spose.

choice of 2. either mcmanaman or solari.

ronaldo's gained a shitload of weight since moving to madrid, looking a right fat bastard now.

No, I think the player in question in Recoba, who came on as a sub and scored an unbelievable goal with his first touch. He's a fantastic player with a genius of a left foot, who can play either left or right. But do we really need another flashy South American?!! ;)
