Fergie has admitted he's interested in Nesta. He's also said that "2 or 3" of his targets are playing in thw world cup..

wonder who they are?

IMO i dont think Thuram is one, considering he'd cost about 16million & he's 29 years old. Remember what Fergie said when he sold Stam? he said to get 16 million for a 29 year old was too good business to turn down...dont think he'll do it in reverse.

i would imagine AYALA was a target .... and maybe a striker ?? CISSE ??

Obviously Nesta, Thuram, & Ayala. All three are probably targetted with the knowledge that only one will come (if that).

Add Finnan, Duff and a yet to be identified forward.

Obviously interested in Nesta, probably Ayala and Thuram. Either only Nesta will come (Blanc staying) or both Ayala and Thuram imo.

Personaly I think the list of Fergei's for defenders should be :
- Thuram ( but I think 18mil is really too X )
- Ayala ( around 15mil sounds fine )
- Nesta ( even though he's young and good, but >20mil will be crazy for a defender )

A new No.9 will definitely coming ... not sure for Fergie ( difficult to guess for this one ) .. but my personal list has increased to below :

- Cisse ( now that Diouf is for the Scouces ... but not anything >20mil ..crazy )
- Aghohawa
- Klose
- Vessell
- Defoe
- Maccarone
- Christie
- Rebrov
- Philips

You can see here ... the MAIN points are "SPEED" & "TRIKINESS" !! ... and all of them are young fellow ( other than Rebrov & Philips who are ...well, if there isn't other choices ) ..

shame Roma beat us to Antonio Cassano. He would really have fitted in with our style imo. But instead we went for Ruud and Roma got him from Bari last summer for 20m. May sound like a risk, especially as he isn't assured a starting place atm, but he's only twenty and in a few seasons he will be an absolute star. We should have sold Yorke (10m) and Cole (13m) last summer and bought in Cassano in 2001. :p

;)

Penny: Klose, Maccarone, Philips etc... not United class imo. :D Better of going for Ashton, cheaper and has the potential.

Haven't really got chance to see Ashton play franking speaking ... . that's why my doubt still here ... Rooney on the other hand - I haven't seen him play but his record in the U17 European game lately have already convince me "invincibly" ...

SPEED and TRIKINESS will be the first priority ... but Ashton is more of a target man IMO ...

Nesta, Thuram Ayala, Mexes are his defense targets IMO...obviously not all four...Either Thuram and Ayala OR Nesta and Mexes(Blanc will stay one more year.)

sorry folks, the point of my topic was who do you think Fergies 3 targets are, that he's mentioned are playing at the world cup?
I didnt want to get into another "who do you think we should sign?" topic because thats already been done repeatedly.
So...basically...players playing at the world cup..who do you think are the 3 players fergie was talking about?

he'll be LOOKING at

AYALA
NESTA
THURAM

Fergies most probable target is definately 1 w/class centre back, who can maybe fill in at right back if needed (thuram, nesta or even ayala?),

he maybe will get another wingback but he will either an unknown, or a fullback witha low profile.

next year he will replace blanc with the perfect replacement, in Mexes (hopefully )

if he bought 2 w/class Cb's then one would have to be sold next year, as he would not sit on bench.

Nesta is one, Thuram and Ayala are the others. Although having seen how amazing Denilson have played today makes me wish he is our target. He is equally as good playing forward as well as a winger. He would be an excellent cover for Giggsy when not playing up front with RVN or Ole.

Well I think he will be looking at:-

RONALDO - The two times World player of the Year had a fantastic game against Turkey. He looked back to his old self and scored. Will be available at a cut price due to all the time he has missed through injury. We need a new number nine and Nike would love it.

NESTA - The Italian centre back looks set to quit Lazio this summer with Juventus believed to be favourites to sign him. However, Alex Ferguson has admitted an interest, and he could certainly plug the defensive hole which has existed since Jaap Stam left.

THURAM - Has been something of a flop since last summers switch tpo Juventus. If Nesta joins Juve then Thuram could well be surplus to requirements. Sir Alex is a keen admirer. He has admitted an interest in moving to United, if he leaves Juve he will most likely leave Italy. He may be thirty but could be available for a cut price of £18 million.

When is that cut price mate.....
How much more would Nesta go for.....6-9 mill for someone who is alot younger and would better serve the club over the next few years.

I could be wrong, but i dont think Fergie will go for Thuram..thats a lot of paper talk IMO. Fergie has said that he wants to build a CB pairing that will last for quite a few years in the same manner as Dolly N Daisy. That statement makes me think he's considering younger targets. Nesta is the obvious one but i wouldnt be surprised if its someone as yet no-one has speculated about (though that would be hard considering Kemo's gone through the A-Z)

That is not what I meant (and you probably knew it). Last summer Alex Ferguson wanted Thuram and thye figure touted was in the region of £25-30 million. In the end he opted for a move to Juventus. Last time I checked £18 million was significantly less than £30 million.

Point taken

But The 12 milion buys you at least another 4 years of playing, and then subtract the 11 mill were owed, no matter what it costs us in the end we are beter in the long run getting Nesta, plus he has experiance playing CB at intl level.

Anyway it doesn't really matter they are both good players and gonna be expensive.....

IMO,

Nesta
Ayala
and some other striker.... prob not Ronaldo
(Finnan) outside chance?????

Larry staying is a plus but wont change SAFs spending plans

just heard we are after Sidney Govou and lyon will agree to it at 20m

also rustus agent claims hes on his way to united after the world cup

How about a full-back? At least some cover.

Seeing as we've lost three defenders (assuming Blanc retires) I reckon we need at least 2 new defendrs, if not three.

Blanc is apparently extending a year. Can't see us spending 8-10m on a player like Bridge as a backup. And now we're being linked with Rustu again. ;)

1) I don't think we'll replace Barthez

2) We need at least one more full back - at the moment we've only got three

3) We need at least one more CB - at the moment we've got three (including Blanc)

4) I believe Veron is leaving, hence we'll need another midfielder

5) We do need one more striker, preferable one with pace

If both Veron and Blanc leave, we will need 4-5 new players to have a healthy squad size and cover. Won't happen though

I think it will be a big name defender, possibly a keeper and a striker.

i would really like to see Nuno Gomes at united, hes quick and thats just what we need and he would be a good partner with RVN plus we can get him for a snip because Fiorentina are going into administration.I think we can get him for around 5mil

what does everyone else think baring ichk

my dream would be:

out:

veron (if he wants to leave): (30+ Million)

rivaldo,Igor Tudor/thuram, Ronaldo.

if my dream ever came true then we literally cut apart defensive teams or teamms with good defenses like, bolton, liverpool, arsenal, etc..

not to mention beat teams like bayern, leverkusen, and even REAL.

the PLC needs to look at immense progression of arsenal, liverpool, and newcastle, and say err.... they are too close for comfort, at this rate we will not be the dominating team anymore. we need players that take us up another level, as we can't rely on potential, we need 2-3 world class players, now is the time to let fergie buy these above players as they are at the cheapest they can be.( rivaldo would cost 15 million, ronaldo 30+ million and Tudor 20 million).

the nike cash could also be used, otherwise, with the players liverpool and arsenal are buying cheapley, most of them turn out good for them, we will struggle.

or am I dreaming again.....................
