Which signings from the past 10 years would've suited Amirom's system?

- Only include signings since 2014
- No current players i.e Shaw, Bruno etc.
- Based on their age/form when we signed them (so you probably wouldn't include Scweinsteiger, Ronaldo, etc)

I'll give it a go

----------------------------Romero--------------------
---------------Varane----Bailly-----------Rojo
Darmian------Herrera----Schneiderlin-------------Blind
---------------Mkhitaryan-----------Di Maria---------
--------------------------------Lukaku-------------------------------

Man we’ve had some underwhelming signings! I’d have Zlatan in there over Lukaku (Zlatan still had a few good years left) and Pogba over Mkhitaryan (not sure how great a fit he’d be, but he was a far better player.)

Romero
Bailly - Varane - Blind
Darmian - Herrera - Pogba - Di Maria
Mkhitaryan - Martial
Zlatan

funny enough I think this team will probably beat our current strongest 11.

ye lots of these are correct. not sure about blind or darmian though. maybe dan james. elanga not really a signing but could be a wing back. and cavani up top although i do think hojlund suits the system

Solid team that but would swap Lukaku for Zlatan.

Romero
Bailly - Varane - Blind
James - Herrera - Schneiderlin - Telles
Di Maria - Pogba
Zlatan

The team above has better defense, better wingback, better no 10, and better striker than what we have right now.

This team would hammer us

Romero
Varane - Bailly - Blind
Di Maria - Herrera - Fred - Sancho
Pogba - Mata
Ibrahimovic
Wing-backs are probably not the best choices defensively but shocked I'm the first person to say Mata.

Could pick 3 full teams plus subs if include sold youth players to debut post SAF

Lukaku
Martial - Mata
Telles - Matic - Pogba - Elanga
Rojo - Varane - Bailly
Romero

Zlatan
Mkhi - Sancho
Di Maria - Fred - Herrera - Darmian
Blind - Tuanzebe - TFM
Valdes

Cavani
James - Januzaj
Fernandez - Garner - McTominay - Laird
Blackett - Keane - McNair
Henderson

+ Fellaini, Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin, Gomes, Lingard, Wilson, Greenwood, Sanchez, Weghorst, Ighalo, Falcao.

I think almost all of them would make our current squad, and more than 50% could be in our strongest XI. Defenders are a bit ropey but there's 10+ forwards I'd bite your hand off for now.

Based on how Amorim would typically set up his Sporting side, I have gone with:

Valdes

Darmian Bailly Blind

Di Maria Matic Herrera Telles

Mata Pogba

Cavani

Fred in one of those 10 roles could have been awesome. He was a real hunter of the ball, and I reckon the goals would have come if he was training more for that role.

James would be RWB for his pace, stamina and pressing.

Cavani has to be there, brilliant presser, good stamina, great teamwork, good finisher on the ground and air

Blind would be a great LCB/LWB. Darmian likewise a RCB.

Peak Mkhitaryan would be a great no.10 and even current would work as a deeper CM. Di Maria also as the right no.10. Mata on the left. Fred and Herrera as high energy CMs in the Ugarte mould.

Quite a few others would just get in down to sheer quality (e.g. Cavani, Pogba, Martial, Ibrahimovic, Varane etc).

Romero
Bailly Varane Rojo
James Herrera Pogba Blind
Di Maria Mhki
Zlatan

Think Pogba would be perfect in that position with Rojo, Herrera, Blind and Mhki around him providing a lot of work rate.

Di Maria would have been great for us if he didn't get robbed straight away and then asked to play wing back.

If including current players and assuming they are fit you'd replace Blind and Mhki with Shaw and Burno. Maybe Mazraoui at RCB, but that is probably about it.

Not a signing from last 10 years but Valencia would have been so good for the right sided role

My point is, zlatan wouldn’t suit a pressing team compared to cavani. Sometimes the unit is mightier with lesser parts
I don't think the Cavani we signed would outperform Zlatan even in a pressing side.

The hold up, link up, finishing would add more to the team, than Cavani would add with his pressing.

Darmian, Kovar, Sancho, Cavani, Pogba, Schnederlin, Elanga, Fred, di maria, Lukaku or Ibra

I am looking at the players you guys are mentioning and I wonder how many pacey players have we signed in the last 10 years beside Dan James and young Martial? Surely I forgot some of them but I wouldn't say there are a lot of them. Maybe that was also a problem of our transfer strategy in the last decade.

This team but I’d probably swap blind for Rojo. add a bit of steel at the back.

I’ll agree to disagree. I don’t see Ibra fitting

I have no idea because our players are so useless at adopting his system that I can’t really see what we’re trying to do.

I guess Ander Herrera maybe? Mata might’ve done well as one of the 10s?

Romero
Bailey Blind Rojo
James Herrera Schneiderlin Di Maria
Mkhitaryan Pogba
Cavani

Romero
Bailly - Varane - Blind
James - Herrera - Pogba - Telles
Cavani - Di Maria
Zlatan
Renewing the Ibra - Cavani PSG time. Other player just doesn't have enough goals. Don't know why we want that again.

Most of those #10s will not press as required. I think Zlatan at the age when we signed him would have been great. Daniel James would have been a good wing-back option, Ander an OK midfield option, Matic an even better one, but mostly those players signed are not good enough, and the few who are mostly don't like working hard. When he could be bothered to play, Cavani was good, but you can't rely on a player who has to feel 100% to play, while making sure he's always available for his country.

Cavani
Pogba - Mata
Di Maria - Matic - Herrera - James
Blind - Varane - Bailly

CB: Varane
CM: Fred
LAM: Di Maria
ST: Martial

Other players, I'd like :
13-16 Antonio Valencia
15-22 Luke Shaw
14-18 Chris Smalling
13-18 DDG
17-19 Rashford (the fast dynamic version, not necessarily the most productive version we had)

---------------------- De Gea
-----Smalling --- Varane ----- Martinez
--Valencia ------Ugarte --- Fred ------- Shaw
----------------Di Maria ------- Rashford
--------------------------Martial

Fred + Ugarte give you the legs you need in the middle of the pitch to press and harass teams through the middle. We've had better midfielders than Fred and Ugarte (Pogba, Bruno, Matic & Casemiro for 6 months, Herrera arguably) but I value high energy and pressing in the midfield two more than anything else for this set up. Kante for example was vital for Chelsea's teams that won the title under Conte and then the CL under Tuchel.

Martial, Rashford and Di Maria give you pace to break on teams. Bruno at his best was arguably our best attacker post 2013 but I value pace more.

Ideally I'd want a faster CB than Martinez for the LCB channel but a left footer is also important. There's a case to put Shaw there but there isn't a better LWB option, and Di Maria would be too vital to drop from the forward positions.

Smalling & Varane are probably the most comfortable defenders we've had defending against pace and both were very good in the air. That's important in this set up, especially with Martinez at LCB.

Romero

Bailly
Varane
Blind

James
Herrera
Fred
Di Maria

Mkhitaryan
Pogba

Cavani

Subs

Valdes
Rojo
Darmian
Matic
Schneiderlin
Schweinsteiger
Mata
Elanga
Ibrahimovic

The obvious two are Edison Cavani as a mobile physical number 9 and Pogba who played his best football at Juventus in a 3421/343 system
