Slow news day. But if you could reassign shirt numbers which would you pick for each player?

1. Onana
2. Dalot
3. Shaw
4. Ugarte

Defenders

2. Wan-Bissaka (Should always be first choice RB number)

11. Rashford (Because his best position is on the left he should wear the number 11 right? Bruno should have 10)
17. Sancho (Does he deserve 7? Not really. 17 - His old Dortmund number)
19. Weghorst
21. Antony
24. Pellestri

It's a silly thing to wind me up but I absolutely despise first team players having random double digit numbers unless they are youth players or have connection to a specific number.

Pretty much agree with what you got there for the defensive half of the team. But would do:
7 - I'd leave it for another year, if Garnacho steps up, I'd give it to him the next season.
8 - keep Bruno.
9 - Martial. Our main striker's number.
10 - Rashford. Elite attacker number.
11 - Sancho. Not sure he will ever deserve the 7, 11 is a winger's number and carries less weight historically so it would probably suit him.
Keep Eriksen at 14.

Weghorst should wear 0 to celebrate his 0 goal in PL this season.
 
I'm annoyed that Shaw used to have 3 but switched to 23.
 
I’d swap Martinez and Casemiro around but other than that I agree with the OP

Having the 'correct' number would remove the fun of trying to decipher the line up when United app releases it in that number order rather than formation :confused:

Unfortunately the number 11 shirt for us is a bit cursed. Probably better not to assign that to our best attacking player :nervous:

Unless the club fail miserably this window, Rashford won't be the best attacking player next season

:D 1999 all over it, except for the reserve goalkeeper because you still associate 17 with Nani.

Edit: On second thought, maybe a few more exceptions, like Keane and Yorke.

Bruno has a tattoo of the number 8 on his forearm and joked with Mata about getting it off him for a couple of years, he isn't going to change it now.
 
I'd just do what I used to do on Football Manager.

The Bruce/Pallister partnership, wearing 4 and 6 heavily influenced me. I'd always have those as central defenders with 5 having to play in midfield.

1-11 first team, based off traditional 4-4-2 formation (number 4 aside) or nearest fit around current formation. 12-21 backup outfield players starting at right back in the same order.

So for season just gone, something like:

1. De Gea
2. Wan Bissaka
3. Shaw
4. Varane
5. Casemiro
6. Martinez
7. Anthony
8. Eriksen
9. Weghorst
10. Fernandes (I know he played on the right a lot too)
11. Rashford
12. Dalot
13. Malacia
14. Lindelof
15. Fred.
16. Maguire
17. Sancho
18. McTominay
19. Martial
20. ????
21. Garnacho

Everyone else gets next highest number where the 2nd digit corresponds to the position. So Sabitzer gets 25 seeing as I'm deeming 5 to be a DM position. Next number 10s/ central forwards/strikers can fight it out for 29/30, then 39/40 etc.

Only problem is backup 'keepers. Either 22 for 2nd choice so he feels closer to the rest of the 2nd choice players, then 31, 41 etc. for 3rd choice and beyond because they end in a 1 shared with 3rd choice and beyond left sided wingers/forwards as 11 also ends in a 1. That or 2nd choice goalie gets 99 because it's closest to 1 but going backwards, 3rd 98 etc.

They should just do what we would do in primary school PE netball and just pull in any random bib with whatever written on it.

Shaw could be number 9
Rashford 52
Martinez Goal Attack
 
They should all be forced to keep it between 1 and 25. Obvious exceptions being youth players and if our squad gets too bloated.
