Which proud lion-hearted brave warrior knight Englishman could manage the German national team?

Jack Charlton. There's plenty of English players with German ancestry he could've found to improve them.

Kevin Keegan. Played and was successful at SV Hamburg. Focused on the men’s game rather than women’s football.

Was going to say Keegan yeah, maybe not now but around the same time Germany were hiring vibes coaches like Voller and Klinsmann anyway.

Kane will probably be the first one to get the opportunity. Few English players have ripped it up in Bundesliga (Sancho aside) of late.

Let’s face it, if they can put up with old ball sniffer Low, they can put up with a real knight, Sur Gareth

That doesn't mean anything. Most managers of the German national team had underwhelming playing careers. There have been some exceptions (I think about Beckenbauer, Klinsmann, Völler, Vogts), but the point is that success as a player absolutely doesn't and never did matter much to get that job.

In general Germany never went for foreign coaches, even if the choices were not great. To be considered an option for this job you likely would have to have had an impact on German football before. Louis van Gaal was mentioned as a candidate for example - he drilled possession football into Bayern's squad and promoted a bunch of youngsters who would become the core of the German national team. This is the kind of impact you would need as a foreign coach before anyone really thinks about you. If you are not German, you at least need to have this kind of relationship to the German team.

So in other words, it would be an Englishman who get's a job in the Bundesliga, plays successful and coaches players who become candidates for the German national team due to his influence. Bundesliga clubs sometimes are willing to gamble on their new managers, so that could happen and become the career of someone nobody here is thinking about. Or some obvious candidate, if for example Potter would take over a big German club I could see him go that way.

They would never be so desperate

John Terry and Nigel Farage are the only two who spring to mind

i’ve seen a series on prime tv that indicates that jeremy clarkson would be fine in the role.

I will take the question more seriously than most in here. There are certain qualities you are looking for:
  • Germans won’t be happy with someone saying 4-4-2 and “outrun your opponent” and all that. You need someone who is introspective and philosophical about his approach, and can speak intelligently.
  • The manager should be tough to deal with the scrutiny especially being an Englishman.
  • The ability to quickly pick up a foreign language would sure be a great asset.
  • I think someone who played at the very top would also get a lot more leeway.
  • This someone would get a lot more respect if they’ve managed or played abroad before.
A great mind, who has played at the top, is tough, can pick up foreign languages easily and quickly, and who played abroad. It has to be Joey Barton.

Owen Hargreaves if he'd decided to go down the managerial route.
