Which players in the game do you think are worth every penny of their fee/wages?

As the title goes.

I put forth:

- DeGea (worth more!)
- DeBruyne (proven to be a steal)
- Silva (after DeGea, best bang for buck in the league, imo)
- Aguero (Given the majority of his career to City and paid them back in full with his goal return)
- Salah (who saw that coming?)

I think it's worth noting none of these came in with unwavering certainty they'd amount to what they have, which makes all of them worth more, in my eyes because their clubs got world class performance out of them without the premiums, for a while.

Who springs to mind for you?

Should this not just be titled "Who are the best players in the world"? If a player is worth every penny of their fee and their wages you're saying they are worth millions and millions of pounds, including commercially. Ronaldo, Messi, Suarez, Neymar, Griezmann would all be on that list.

Value to individual clubs is different, every team has a standout player.

Either that or you're talking about best value for money...in which case it's Andy Robertson ;)

Kane and his wages (aren’t they really low compared to other players in the league?) have to be up there. Top3 player in the league and he’s probably not in top 10 paid Premier League footballers.

We would need to know how much they're currently on. Does anyone have a list?

None, they kick a fecking ball around, they deserve 3k a month tops.

Idealistic rubbish aside, RVP at Feyenoord, love him.

There's many others who I can't be bothered to list :)

Kompany for 8m, still captain (when fit) ten years later and annoyingly good still, especially as he seems to have got his injuries behind him again.

no because some are just about breaking even over a season despite their brilliance and for what they get paid the return is demanded.

Someone like Messi, who carries his team, is going beyond that, but how many players out there can you genuinely say carry their team?

Jamie vardy for leicester, incredibly

I see what youre getting at but this will be interpreted very broadly and if being consistent i expect a city fan here any minute to tell you Silva would have cost 176 trillion in todays money

Never understand why people resent the wages so much , on a separate issue. Footballers seem to take more flak than most in similar situations when you consider mayweather likely earned more for shadow boxing manny pacquio for 36 minutes than most footballers earn in a career (many players combined). George clooney earns more for a few weeks looking smug in some average film. Kylie Jenner earns 1 million dollars per paid Instagram post. Some girl from middle of nowhere England earns 64000 every time she recommends a product on you tube.

Footballers are in a microcosm percentage of people who wanted to do what they do, about 420 professional players in the premier league at a time out of the millions upon millions who tried, their career is incredibly short and often at the expense of education, and the football economy shouldn’t even be equated to our own. Is it fair that Scott Dann earns a shit tonne more than somebodynworking 70 hours a week as a nurse at an understaffed hospital, no. But it’s a nonsense comparison.

Anyway, back on topic....Scott dann.

That can't be right? Of it is he should sack his agent, in fact, every player should fire their agents.

He hasn't renewed his contract (expd. 2020). I believe he will not sign new contract unless he gets paid on par with Kane.

Some interesting figures..

Spurs' players. It baffles me how they're managing to keep them happy.

Monreal was bought for a decent fee (£9m) and is entering his 7th year. Reportedly only on £65,000.

None of them until you get down to about Div2/conference.

I don't begrudge them the money but they're not worth what they get paid.

Harry Kane
Jamie Vardy
Salah
Kante
Modric
Kroos
Marcelo

Id say all of them with the amount of money to be made in football. Its the owners that are overpaid.

This should goes to the lowest paid good player in bottom tables.

I'd say john oshea was the best bang for our bucks.

Beckham worth every penny for the exposure he brought.

Please don't underestimate Beckham... he's still top 10 in the number of assists he provided at United.

In terms of current EPL players:

De Gea
Silva
Milner
Kante

This is an exercise in futility

Messi costs barcelona £100m a year, yet how many people would consider that too much for barcelona? Or more than he's worth?

And yet, he alone costs his club more than De Bruyne, Salah, Silva, Aguero, Firmino, Mane and Kane cost theirs, combined. Wouldn't Barcelona be better off swapping Messi for those guys? And if you were in charge of barcelona, would you even consider it?(keeping in mind you're getting lynched by an angry mob the next day)

No because Messi's a bona fide assurance for Barcelona - someone they can bet the house on. To replace him would cost an equivalent wage spread across two to three players who give you no such assurance but all of the cost/risk.

Messi is about the worst example to use because he's the biggest dead cert in club football and has been for a decade. He's carried them in the league more than any single player active has for any club. He's the closest you get to a sure thing.

The vast majority of players are, whether we like it or not.

David Silva. It’s not that he cost about 20m and is in around 180k (though that looks value to some others), it’s that he’s been one of the best in the league consistently for 10 years yet not a murmur about more cash, delayed signings of contracts, nothing
Annoying as feck yes but good value (today’s market) for sure

None of them.

Cap them all to a maximum 10k per week .....they'll still want want to play, what else could they do?

The very best players will still make millions through their own commercial deals.

where do you get this from ? there is no danger Messi is payed around 1.9m a week from Barca.

What happens to the rest of money involved in football? I assume it goes to owners who deserve it more than players?

Give it to the poor/poverty. Let's stop world hunger. Lower ticket prices Sarni!

Hahaha, if only.

OT, Madrid pay half their squad really "low" wages (compared to what we pay some of our squad players iirc) don't they?

Ideally, the money saved on wages would be used to lower ticket prices.

Pretty much everywhere. Catalan media, Spanish media, and then confirmed by football leaks. Messi is on ~€110m gross per year, plus add-ons
