Which club has the highest wage bill in Britain?

I'm pretty sure it is us. Chelsea were no1 for the last few years, but it was always close enough.
I would think that Rio, Veron, Forlan coming in, and renegotiations of contracts for Becks, Keane, Silvestre have pushed us to the top.
We are getting value for money though relatively speaking. United has been a club that exploited young players, getting them in on crappy contracts because of the clubs name..a good example being Paul McGrath. That had to change.
We also run a far bigger squad than most and have a big youth set up.

we also have more money than any other club on the planet.

Exactly. Given our financial situation it would be surprising if we didn't have the top wage bill. Most of our top earners are regulars as well ,unlike Chelsea with Bogarde and Bosnich.

True. But whats a good wage to Claudio Cannigia and company? Where else but Jockland are they going to get an offer of 20,000 a week? ;)

I can't comment on the details of McGrath but all clubs pay relatively small amounts to youngsters coming through the juniors. Also remember that wages have increased dramatically since pay tv and the premiership.

We have a much flatter pay scale than most big clubs. Zidane, Figo, Ronaldo and co are paid much more than our top earners but we pay more to our fringe first teamers. This must help team harmony.

exactly!

it's digusting to hear how much those 2 earn when they don't even play

And in Bogardes case refuse to play for the reserves, go out on loan or take a transfer.
Not that i'm going to get too judgmental until i get my chance to turn down 40 0dd grand a week. ;)

Not sure if this is true but to my knowledge, youngsters at OT typically pick up around 500 quid or so for their weekly pay packets.

i also think we're topping the wage bill in the UK.. and possibly with a big profile player coming in during the summer and other clubs falling apart financially then i don't think anyone will overtake us atleast 2-3 more years.

I don't think we're anywhere near Real tho.

In percentage of turnover terms we are nowhere near the top spender on salaries.

the success of the club goes with it.. without trophies the percentages will soon change negatively.. the italian clubs have collasped beyond imagination.. hence the reason why United HAS to win something every season,.. it's no longer just for the fans - but also for all the money hungry people involved, including the players.

football has become business.. if nothing's done about it then the traditions will soon be invisible..

I admire the American Sports Associations ways of financial management.. clubs like Chicago Bulls didn't even go bankrupt when Jordan quit and their attendances fell more than 75%.. The club is lying at the bottom of the league yet it's surviving... it's a sound proof plans that help keep the traditions of winning for the fans intact.

Precisely. In fact, our wage is a healthy percentage of our turnover compared to the likes of Chelsea, and even Arsenal.
