Where is all the money coming from?!?

I am not trying to stir up what has turned out to be an already exhausted topic but could it be possible that Veron is on his way?!?

You hear allsorts of sh1t and people are forever saying "I know this guy who knows a guy that's in the know and has said". Now this is going to seem like a contradiction to most but im not quoting this as breaking news, I am just simply giving it food for thought.

Anyway, a mate of mine at work has a friend who works in finance and he deals with a lot of football clubs. Now he can actually find out how much a club is in debt and how much they have loaned, he also gets to hear a lot of stories and rumors.

Put it this way, I take what he says with a pinch of salt but there are times when he IS first in the know and turns out to be right. Three days before O'Leary's departure, he put a bet on for O'Leary to be sacked and for O'Neill to take his place, so far 1 out of 2 ain't bad.

Now im dribbling so I will get to the point, I believe United had around 20m to spend this summer after the purchases we made last year. Now if this is the case, how are we funding the Ferdinand transfer, not only that, we need to bring in at least one other player as well?!?

Yorke, Fortune and May are due to go which together will fetch a maximum of 8m. The lad I was referring to as being in the know, told me before the World Cup that United have already made a deal for Ferdinand and Veron was on his way!!

If this is the case, certain things fall in to place, i.e. is this the reason why O'Leary was bad mouthing the board, is this where the money is coming from?!?

I am sure I am not the only one who has thought about this!! Personally I can't see Fergie selling Veron after defending him to the hilt, that is or unless Veron has asked to go. I believe he will stay as he'll come good and Fergie won't want to prove the critics right!! All this said, it brings me back to the money - where is it coming from?!?

Another thing to consider is the fact Nicky Butt had a tremendous World Cup, has this put a different perspective on things?!?

You friend reads a lot of newspapers I must say.

As for Butt's performances, it's changes little as he's a different player to Veron. Fergie bought Seba for a reason - the creative spark - and as well as Butt played, his performances do not make him a Veron.

If Fergie however changes his beliefs to what the team needs, it's another thing.

Give it a rest people, we haven't signed Ferdinand. Will we? who knows, but there's no 'done deal'. We've heard about those for a few summers now and there was never a done deal that was announced weeks later.

Your basic point that to buy ferdinand for that much requires a sale of a big name player is right. I think that has to be Veron. But what will happen is that it will be Veron who "decides" to leave, just as it will be Rio who decides to leave Leeds. Its just playing the politics of the game and conning the fans.

Your forgetting the contract with Nike guaranteeing 440 million over ten years on top of any other income i.e increased sky money, increased profits!

You're also forgetful - it's 303m for 13 years.

And another poster has said 440m for 5 years. Anywhere we can get the right FACTS?

If anything, that has to strengthen Veron's case. We have to be aware Keano probably only has a couple of season left, if that.

Butt has shown he could fill his boots, defensively at least. It has been suggested Veron and Keane might not be the most fitting/suitable CM partnership, not complementing and rather clashing in their roles/abilities.

Butt's performances would only have reminded Fergie that he has a good DM who can complement Veron and form the CM partnership for years to come.

i.e. instead of focusing on Keane he must have started focusing on Butt, and Veron looks a lot more promising in that light.

However, the amount paid to the club by Nike will be reduced if the team does not finish in the top half of the Premiership or take part in European competition.

Nike will have the option to end the arrangements in 2008.

We will get a major signing at around 20m-30m, but any more than that will require a sale of at least one of the current major players, that's apparently true and easy to understand. Who in our current squad can be sold for big money and his left will have minimum negative effect on the completeness and performance level of the team, there is only one answer to this question. Though what I worry is that after his poor WC we are almost certainly impossible to get back all the 28m we spent on him.
