Just asking?? From a conversation last night.

1 thing that helps when you play for a big club you get closer to the international set-up. (Hint Heskey) but does that make you great??

You get more exposure, Talked about more, pundits comment on your good and Bad. (Hint Viduka) but does that make you great??

You get involved in a Tradition of winning and success, and famous players playing in that position over the years. (Hint Dudek) but does that make you great??

You get to play in Europe which gives you better experience than the lesser teams. (Hint Phil Neville) but does that make you great.

What I'm getting at here is simple, Are present players at big clubs that great. Could Wayne Bridge do better than Harte, Could Sinclair be better then Pires, Could Defoe be better then Henry, Delap be better then Gerard, Kenna be better then Phil Neville.???

Not picking these names out for any reason, but as a club we expect greatness, but greatness does not come cheap and although you can be surrounded by greatness that does not elevate certain players.

I've had a long think about Bolton and our other games this season, and I believe this present Man Utd team have lost that Greatness.

and before I get slagged off - I still think we'll come close to lifting the title and CL and will be at Elland rd on Sat.

I think a player can be elevated to a position of greatness that is very often undeserved, just because you've signed to a big club. Usually by the supporters.

The problem is that we attach the tag great player too easily.
For a player to be defined as great he must show it over a number of seasons. He must be the a player who season after season stands out above the rest.
Keane is a great player.
Cantona was a great player
Shearer is a great player

Nah Nah, you're all wrong! When you play for Arsenal or L/pool you are an honest, hard working, team orientated, humble, straightforward, sincere, misunderstood, classy, give your all, die for the club, unassuming and generally wonderful and well meaning young man who is unfortunate not to be the star of your country's team. When you play for the lesser clubs you are an honest journeyman with only the game's and public's interests at heart.

When you play for us, you're a money grabbing, star seeking, mouthy, arrogant, ignorant and useless twat who couldn't give a f*ck for anybody apart from yourself and who plays for your country only because you play for us!

Not true, of course, BUT I WISH IT WAS!

It wasn't too long ago we were the media's darlings. Think Fergie's fledglings.

Shows you what twats the papers are. And those who swallow all the bull they print.
