Film When (if at all) would you feel safe going back to the cinema?

I've had an email from Odeon today to say that they are reopening their cinemas from 12 July. My Odeon Limitless card has been reactivated from today so I'm told so I'm able to start booking films for next month. They've also said that as a token of goodwill, they're not going to resume my direct debit payments until the August payment date, which is pretty decent of them.

However, what do you guys think? Would you/do you feel safe heading back to the cinema next month? They've explained that they have a lot of measures in place to safeguard the public and personally I'm glad that the audience sizes will be restricted anyway with nobody in the immediate vicinity.

I'm really looking forward to going back but also still a little apprehensive. I've done really well for the last 3 months keeping away from Covid environments so it would be a real kicker if something happened now all because of a trip to the cinema.

When do you plan to go back (if at all)?

As soon as they open here I’ll be going. I don’t think I’m any less safe there than I’ll be in a supermarket, pub or restaurant.

The biggest issue with them coming back is what are they going to show? No film is going to want to release right now as sales will be well down. Better to sit on it and wait for things to calm down further.

I'll go a week after it opens. The cinema I go to I've to book tickets beforehand. So least I can stay away from others. Even though it's usually empty at around 2 in the day.

Probably ages because they will be mobbed to begin with, like most things. Nothing worse than a packed cinema.

Yeah, the cinema is going to be packed, unless the cinema implements distancing policy and seats them at half capacity.

They've said that social distancing measures will be in place so obviously that will mean reducing admittance per screening and I'm guessing the online booking won't allow you to book next to other cinema-goers. It may be packed outside but in the actual auditoriums, it won't be. I only go during working hours anyway as I work from home a lot, even more so now.

When they're not charging £10 for a ticket!

Get a Limitless card, ya cheapskate!

But the more places you go to, the less safe you are overall.

I’m not really that concerned. We are barely getting 500 cases per day despite the whole country being open for over a month, our healthcare is coping just fine and covid-19 will stay with us so I’m bound to get it at some point anyway. I wear a mask when I’m within short distance from people so risk of me passing it on is relatively small too.

When they stop showing the entire plot line in the trailer, when they stop throwing 30 mins of adverts before every film, when every other film isn’t a shit remake or superhero movie, when they stop charging a tenner per film then seven quid for a slush, when they deal with the loud annoying cnuts rather than offering free tickets to those who complain.

When a vaccine has gotten around most of the world.
Or when there comes a movie that tempts me enough to rent the whole cinema.

But I'm a heart-transplant recipient, so I need to be more careful than average Joe.

I think supermarkets are different here as you'd only be passing somebody for a few seconds. Whereas in these other scenarios including the cinema you'll be sitting close to a stranger for a long period of time which is higher risk.

Going as soon as it opens. You'll be distanced within the screens, makes for the perfect cinema experience.

Wait is the onus on the cinema itself with regards to capacity / social distancing? Seems a good idea.

Yeah that will be under their control/supervision. They can allocate seating with appropriate spacing at time of booking. I always bring my own grub anyway so won't be visiting the kiosks.

Not that close. The nearest stranger would be at least two meters from me, they’ve set the rules this way.

Already back open here in Aus, they’re showing exactly what was out at the start of this Feckfest.. I‘m going tomorrow during the day, will be hardly anyone there, but gotta support our local businesses now more than ever $12 a ticket I don’t want to see them go under.
