Whats all this nonsense about huge transfers

What is the point in all these mega-large transfers people are talking about? Of course a club like ours is bound to be linked to every big-name player in the world at some point, and its good that we are able to attract players of this calibre to the club, but surely we should spend our cash in finding homegrown talent. The talent coming through now is simply not good enough compared to the talent coming through in the mid to late ninetees(bar john o' shea)
The treble squad of '99 contained brown, the nevilles, butt, scholes, beckham, giggs, greening etc...i would have thought that it would make more sense to invest in our youth. it would save the club cash in the long run and it would save SAF the worry of wondering whether foreign players could adapt etc.....

i know a lot of fans mightn't agree with me but i want to hear yer opinions anyway....

the possible purchase of Bellion is a step in the right direction.
Like you say, because of United reputation they are constantly linked to every name in world football. But we're never realistically gonna sign even a small percentage of the amount of players we're linked too. its nonsense. This club was always built on homegrown players and young players brought in, not big names. Thats the way it will remain.

Our most successful periods have been with homegrown players and they should be given more of a chance at the top level to prove if they are good enough(eg Webber/Djordic/Nardiello etc)

It's a debate we've seen a few times on here, my view is that the best United teams have always been a mixture of exceptional home nurtured talent and top signings. The current side is no different in fact. The best players coming through the ranks lately have tended to be defenders (JOS & Wes) but I like the look of Kieron Richardson and reserve team watchers have seen promise in Nardiello and others, check out Neil Thompsons Youth thread. You will get some responses from people who think we should just go out and buy everyone but (i) we don't have that sort of money and (ii) I think we need to have United supporters playing for United.

In the same way that we shouldn't and can't expect to win something every year, we can't expect to unearth talent in the mould of Scholes, Beckham, Giggs, O'Shea et al with any great regularity. There's only ever been one team in the world who consistently did that - Ajax. Before the afore mentioned players came into the frame we hadn't unearthed a great deal more than we are doing at the moment - Hughes and Whiteside in the 80s in more recent times, other than those two (I'm thinking off the top of my head here ) who have we produced? We should just be grateful when a talent like O'Shea comes along full stop if you ask me.

yeah watched the reserve team game a couple weeks ago(or was it longer???) and Nardiello impressed me

give richardson and nardiello a run in the team although earnshaw at cardiff has potential.
