What will our team look like vs Newcastle (a) 12th Jan?

With the January transfer window opening on the 2nd January, we have 10 days to complete any signings before our next Premier League game.

You'd assume that any targets have been lined up to go through as soon as the window opens so, realistically, how do you think we might line up against the Toon?

It never works out that way. If we sign anyone it'll be for far too much on the last day of the window. Before then we'll lose a further 4 players to injury and field a team made up largely of the under 21s.

De Gea
Young
Smalling
Blind
Darmian
Schneiderlin
Schweinsteiger
Mata
Herrera
Martial
Rooney

To get any first teamers in before the Newcastle game would requite United to actually do something interesting.

So in conclusion, you'll have more luck by becoming a billionaire overnight, buying United and signing someone yourself

Exactly the same...they really need to bin the January transfer window.

Think it will take longer than 10 days for Woody to convince Neymar...

I won't be surprised if our team is exactly the same as it is today when we play Stoke on the 2nd Feb.

The same squad but with more injuries.

I don't think we will line up like this, but it would be nice if we could:

-------------Martial------------
Mane-------Herrera-----Januzaj
-----Schneiderlin--Bastian-----
Blind---Smalling--Jones--Darmian
--------------DDG---------------

The same. Woodward doesn't do business too early even though it would make sense to. Whoever we sign will be mid to late January.

Even if we do get any one one, i Doubt they will start. It's not how the philosophy works

We will sign Messi tomorrow but van Gaal will then realise through trainings and videos that he loses the ball too much and tries risky passes all the time and drop him for the first few games until he adopts to the philosophy. Once he starts to play around March some people here will tell us that he is much better player after he has learned the philosophy. Van Gaal will probably explain him how to shot, and after he scores his first goal the van Gaal way, van Gaal will praise his methods and say Messi is better goalscorer now, even though he won't score any goals after that.

I'll take my coat.

There's only one thing for it, we need Space Jam aliens to steal the abilities of beloved 90's footballers.

I'm with the majority. It'll be the same team but possibly with a few more injuries.

Van Gaal will still be on the bench too.

We could solve many of our problems in the summer if we were to get rid of Van Gaal before then (otherwise new signings will eventually end up like the rest) by raiding Everton. Stones and Lukaku would do and, if we're as ruthless as we need to be then we could sweeten the pot with Rooney, Fellaini, Jones or Carrick.

Stones and Smalling in defence would become a proper partnership and I've always liked Lukaku for pure potential. Back when he was at Chelsea I really thought that he and Sturridge would be class. Didn't account for injuries of course :)

Same as usual. Possible new recruits will start at the bench though.

Gtfo and don't forget your hat. Messi rarely loses the ball so he'd be immune to the philosophy.

Stones hasn't been very good this season.

Basically the same but maybe lvb will send Martial out on loan now we're getting Keane back.

The January window is difficult as it is, let alone when we're trying to get teams to sell their best players to us. They have absolutely zero inclination to let them go early in the window unless we significantly overpay (more than we will anyway...), so any deals won't take place until the end of the month. And, if it's late when we make any signings, it won't be through United "sitting on their hands and only trying to sign Neymar".

I doubt we'll see wholesale changes, although another attacking player of the Mane / Mahrez ilk would be great to provide a bit more quality up front.
