well you could blame many things like the pitch and the fact that it was uniteds first competitive game but the fact remains that united should have easily overpowered their opposition. The amount of chances missed was incredible especially in the second half. personally i feel that the only players who played to their potential were silvestre, carroll and veron who to me is looking very sharp in pre-season games.Although iam still certain that we will pass performences like that can't be repeated there were enough of those last season especially when we lost to middlesborough at home which virtually ended our chances of winning the league.

i was very dissapointed with roy keanes performence i think the controversy regarding his book is having a negative effect on his game.

If veron has played to his potential last game, then god please help us !

well lets face it compared to last season he has made a big improvemant

Keane didn't have a great game. Not sure about your theory but he may be a bit thrown by all the attention. Stick with Keano though.

dont get me wrong i think keane is one of the players in the world and he rarely has a bad game thats why i was so dissappointed by his performence.but i'm sure we'll still pass.

it has to be said veron did not look comfortable trying to play his normal game on that fecking pitch. he was trying to play it short, run with the ball etc and it looked like he was playing on a surface of raw beef stomachs.
he'll play better at OT i guarantee.

Agreed. They all will.

From what I saw of him last season, that was his normal game..

your right the pitch really messed up their whole game. What did you all think about becks, he seemed a bit tired to me.

We lost a game that on chances alone, we should have won 3 or 4 nil.

I don't subscribe to this doom and gloom stuff. We played excellent against Parma and Boca in pre season. We also were hardly shite against Ajax despite losing the match.

I hate the way we go from 'the best' to 'the worst' depending on one match at a time.

IF we beat WBA by a good score-line on Saturday, it will suddenly be all fine and dandy again to most people. We have injuries to most of our defence. It happens. Other clubs have much much worse to deal with all the time. They don't have our resources and squad depth.

Barthez and Gary will be back in a few weeks. Gary Neville is vastly under rated and I can't wait to see a back four of Gaz Larry Rio Mikky.

Our midfield should definitely include Nicky Butt and if it means playing him and Veron in some games, and Roy and Scholes in others then so be it.

Roy is very important to the team, but he is 31 and would benefit IMO from sitting out the odd match. We rely too much on him and have to learn to live without him. (We may have to anyway if the hysterical public get their way

Butt and Veron seem to play well together.

ye lacking in match fitness i'd say. something limiting his play anyway.
would normally hate to suggest it but did anyone else consider that brown went in and got injured jumping in on his opponent? it loked a silly tackle from the moment he lept into it.

considering that the ball was already out of play i don't know why wes jumped in for the tackle.its a shame cause he's been playing very well lately.

What is IMO?
I think veron has looked good pre-season. On wednesday i realised he played a lot of balls in the air on wednesday, i think because of the pitch and we no he likes playing tight passing on the floor, so the pitch didnt help him especially.

i thought ferguson said that he's gonna start butt this season so how come he was a sub on wednesday. it seems to me that his preffered central midfield partnership is of veron and keane. i think he should use the squad rotation system and make them fight for their place.

IMO (in my opinion) he should have gone for Butt and Keane as soon as he saw the state of the pitch. veron was never gonna be able to play his own natural game on that surface.

Everone seems to blame the pitch . We lost, thats the whole point and there were two teams on the park we should have done them, it was a performance we will remember for all the wrong reasons. They also had to play on the same pitch but managed to snatch a winner in the dying seconds it was again a lack of concentration that lost us that game and the forwards not being up to match fitness may have contributed but i look forward with relish to the return at OT they won't know what hit 'em.

The pitch was pretty bad, especially when Beckham was through on goal. I thought we could have been a bit more direct with Becks and Seba floating some balls into the box

agreed Syd, something to give us penetration because we did have the men up front to take advantage of it. we tried too often to play it through them through the middle and on the ground, a ridiculous concept when you saw how the ball was acting on the surface.

of course am not suggesting this is 'the reason why we lost ', the reason why we lost partly involved not working the right system to suit the pitch.

strange when you consider Carlos Queiroz was around to think of these things even if SAF didnt.

Hopefully we will see the value of Carlos Q as the season unfolds. He will eed a little time to watch how certain players perform in serious matches. One hopes that this will allow him to analyse our problems and use his undoubted experience to suggest improvements.

I wonder why people are bleating about our youth system when all they are doing is echoing what the club has realised and already started to address, by making coaching changes at academy level. This will also need some time to bear fruit.

Richardson looked lively against Boca and we also have Darren Fletcher who may yet prove to be back-up to Bex.

I just hope that we can produce a striker of real quality one day from our youth team.

i dont know why everyone is complaining about the the youth system cause there are some fanastic youths coming through like davis, djordic, richardson, pugh, stewart, lynch, williams, webber, fletcher, steele, tierney and of course that youth system produced john o'shea so i think they must be doing something right.

Cheers

maybe they will react to the loss by an outstandind performence against wba.

come on utd lets show them who are the true champs of england and europe

In reply to jimpy about the youth system - I am NOT complaining about it. I am complaining about the way Manchester United produces these lads of potential and then doesn`t give them a half chance to prove themselves.

That is why it was goodbye to Macken, Notman, Curtis, Higinbotham, Wallwork, etc. They were never given a real bloody chance to show what they could do. A few games warming the subs bench is not going to give our lads the opportunities they need to prove their worth.

When Sir Alex sent some older players on their way some years back, he filled the void with such names as Giggs, Beckham, the Nevilles, and Butt. They are very good to outstanding players (yes, I think Phil Neville is very good when he is on song). But now he buys big names who may or may not prove to be correct buys. :( :( :( :( :(

true i think it is a huge loss that the club sold healy cause he seemed like a magnificent prospect and he is proving that withpreston.

THE YOUTH'S AREN'T BEING GIVEN MUCH OF A CHANCE TO PROVE THEMSELVES.
