If we accept that Keane is out for at least 6 games - and maybe more if he has his op - then how should we be lining up? Do we just replace him with Butt (assuming fit) and just keep on going (remember this failed to work in 98) or will we try something different for this extended run?

Yes, but back in 98 we didn't have Veron. Butty and Veron seem to do fine together.

We'll survive. When the chips are down, and the backs are to the wall, United performs at their very best. Without Keano, I'd say the chips are down.

I think we will survive - that wasn't my point - I just wonder with Keane out for a while whether Fergie will try something different in terms of formation - would he let Beckham come inside for a couple of games for instance maybe with Forlan out wide right - could be interesting especiually if not against grade A opposition

Until we have a player with the crossing ability of anyway near Becks we cannot consider playing him in the centre. Without Keane it is going to be difficult but this is the time for Seba to step up. He doesn't play well with Keane because they both like to control the game and have the play going through them. With Keane on the pitch Veron is never going to have that.
We are going to lose something without Keane but we just have to swallow it and get behind the players on the pitch.

I'd like to see SAF try something like that
I'm sure it would work

Injuries willing i think thats a good formation

Well - looks like we're going to find out - he's out for 3 months - having his operation today. Really a terrible start to the year for him.

I hope we do try something more adventurous - we have no-one good enough to completely replace him so why not try a different approach to the game that doesn't make it so obvious that we miss him

here's to hoping butt churns out some good performances...with veron kicking some arse as well...
