More from Rio

"Money isn't the issue here. I won't lie and say you don't think about it a bit but it's not the be-all and end-all. It is a long way down the list and besides I'm being paid good money at Leeds. I said last week that winning things was my main motivation and that I'm getting impatient for silverware. Mr Venables knows that. I am a footballer and to me winning trophies is why we do this. The rewards a footballer enjoys are great but I think everyone knows how much I love the game itself. I know it's coming down to the wire now and that I have to have an answer for everybody's sake. But if anyone says they know what it will be they are wrong because I honestly don't know myself."

"I honestly don't know what I will do. But my family will play a big part in helping me make up my mind. I will listen to my mam Janice and dad Julian and I will talk to my younger brother Anton, who plays at West Ham, and my sisters. I realise this decision is important to a lot of people — the clubs, the fans, everyone — but in the end I have to do what's right for me and my family. Mr Venables never asked me to say whether I would be staying or not. But I could not have given him an answer there and then anyway because there is a lot to think about and I'm sure he understands that. He is a persuasive character, with a track record to back him up. He reiterated to me his plans for the club, how he saw the future and was very enthusiastic about everything. As a person and a coach he's up there among the best of them. He said the sort of things I expected and you can see he wants to do well. This is his chance to stamp his mark on a club and he wants to do everything to make it a big success. He has put a few of his ideas in my head and now I want to think hard about them before I get back to him. But I do feel that Leeds will achieve things with him in charge. It's a very hard decision. The people at Leeds have been brilliant to me and I cannot emphasise that enough."

Sounds like there is more chance of him coming to OT..........I HOPE SO............

Sorry, but that is a bunch of crap. Rio has already made his mind up and forget his second cousin removed. Typical media crap speculation.
He will listen to his sister!!, give me a fecking break, what the feck does she know about his situation. This is typical of Roy of the Rovers journalism. Lets get real please, Rio will decide what he wants to do , when he wants to. End of story.

Hear! Hear! Why I hear Reds talking about importing Italians such as Nesta who I think could not hack it for too long in the Premiership (being used to the slower style of Italian football not to mention the warmer climate and more luxurious lifestyle of the Italian footballer, and Thurma who frankly is getting a little old for the astronomical sums of money his club would ask, does not make a great deal of sense to me.

Rio is young, he is used to the Premiership and British lifestyle, he can only get better, and he has now a superb work ethic and good attitude. His antics at Aya Napa etc are things of the past and he impressed me with his willingness to talk honestly about his reckless behaviour.

Foreign players are NOT necessarily the answer. I am a fan of Seba but whether he can fit into Sir Alex`s system or whether Sir Alex will change things around to accommodate his wonderful skills, remains to be seen in the coming season.

Manchester United won the Treble with some foreign players but let`s remember that the foreign stars of the European Cup final were players who had cost relatively little to buy - Ole and Schmikes.

Rio for Manchester! <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" /> <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" /> <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" /> <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" /> <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" /> <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" />

Its easy to be once bitten twice shy about "foreigner" playing for United because of Veron's poor showing.

But it doesn't mean United should pay silly money for Rio as well!

Thuram for 15 Million over about 5 years is good enough to be better business than say 35 million for Rio over 5 years don't you think?

No matter how old or young the player is, it is the length of his contract that governs his worth nowadays.

And I seriously doubt United will be able to get more than 10 million for Rio entering the last year of his contract.

Just some thots.
