The 20 clubs starting this season’s Premier League are worth a combined £8.4billion according to new valuations.

That represents a massive 460 per cent growth in the worth of the top-flight clubs in the 16 years since Richard Scudamore became chief executive.

They were collectively worth about £1.5bn in 1999, with Manchester United by far the most valuable at £623m.

United are now worth more than £1.8bn according to football finance expert Dr Tom Markham, who has worked for club buyers and sellers and uses a formula based on income, assets and profitability to assess worth.

Arsenal are the second most valuable at £1.1bn, then Manchester City (£907m), Chelsea (£826m) and Tottenham (£710m). Even Bournemouth, in their first season in the Premier League, are worth £104m.

‘Simply becoming a member of this division adds £60m-plus at a stroke to a club’s value,’ said Markham. ‘And when the cash from the next television deals arrives in 2016-17, every club will increase in value again by tens of millions.’

The Premier League’s TV deals have grown almost 10-fold since 1999, while the clubs’ collective income has grown 353 per cent from £772m a year to £3.5bn a year.

Villa are shockingly low.

Still...seems a bit high when you consider how close they are too Chelsea on that list

I think usually on these lists Liverpool are higher, but Tottenham are genuinely up there - usually top 15 in the world.

Arsenal above Chelsea? City above Chelsea? Spurs above Liverpool?

Why is that?

Arsenal possibly due to their brand new (bigger) stadium and bigger worldwide following? Both should bring in more revenue.

City I would guess mainly due to the investment in their squad i.e "assets"? But yeah, as time goes by and a lot of these players contracts end/run down - unless city spunk more gazillions on a revamp, their value will lower. Their "inflated contracts" with etihad sponsors etc will also increase their value.

My guess is they value the club on stadium, squad and income, City are comfortably ahead of Chelsea and Arsenal on income for their clear-as-day bullshit sponsorships.

The money from the new TV deal doesn't arrive until next season? I thought it was this?

Landan, innit

Plus our new training complex. Plus the new stadium project in progress. When the latter is finished the club's valuation will increase considerably.

Chelsea have more worldwide following than Arsenal.

Really? Even if that's true, I'll never think of them as a bigger club than Arsenal.
Yes. In any type of estimation I have seen, Chelsea is the second most followed club from England. Also, only United sells more shirts than Chelsea when it comes to English clubs (only Madrid, Barca and Bayern from other countries). Chelsea is very likely the fifth most supported football club in the world.
