United are now worth more than £1.8bn according to football finance expert Dr Tom Markham, who has worked for club buyers and sellers and uses a formula based on income, assets and profitability to assess worth.
Arsenal are the second most valuable at £1.1bn, then Manchester City (£907m), Chelsea (£826m) and Tottenham (£710m). Even Bournemouth, in their first season in the Premier League, are worth £104m.
‘Simply becoming a member of this division adds £60m-plus at a stroke to a club’s value,’ said Markham. ‘And when the cash from the next television deals arrives in 2016-17, every club will increase in value again by tens of millions.’
The Premier League’s TV deals have grown almost 10-fold since 1999, while the clubs’ collective income has grown 353 per cent from £772m a year to £3.5bn a year.
