Looks like Fergie has really lost it now by deciding that DiCanio is not a target.
Shame really as Fergie has a big problem with buying a striker that hasnt played in Europe! All these names are thrown around but most if not all have played in Europe this year. He also needs someone to inspire the players around him and scare the other strikers into realising that they are playing for the biggest team in the world and they need to get there act together. Who else is better at these than DiCanio - here is a man who has been carrying West Ham for 3 seasons now..... So frustrating as he could be the new Cantona for a couple of seasons!!

He was a target, but he's not now, cos he's too old. We need to start thinking a bit more long term than players like Blanc. And I doubt he'd have that effect on the other players in the team. Look at Cole! And West Ham are a bottom club! Personally I don't think being Cup-tied is a problem, its the Premiership that we need to be concerned about.

I have this horrible feeling January is going to come and go and we're not going to end up with any new strikers.

Call me whatever the hell you want but here is my take on it, and it is simple. Fergie is denying all this because he is simply weighing all the options and finding out what he can get and how much it is going to cost the team. No point getting anyone's hopes up or tiping his hand at who he has his eye on.

Isn't Di Canio 34 only?
That's not old and he keeps himself incredibly fit. And what a class act.

That surprised me recently aswell, a player like him has definitely 1½ or so good seasons left in him.
I belive were a spark away from a very good team, problem is their are not many of them around but Di Canio is definitely one.

Would Di Canio bottle out of away matches if he played for us?

The number of strikers who can continually create their own chances is limited. So even if we get a striker, unless the midfield gets its act together and starts creating chances, it won't make a great deal of difference.

I think getting a settled midfield who can create opportunities the way they used to is the main priority.

Completely agree. Our Midfield has been poor. Only Scholes providing the drive.

As for DiCanio. Last season yes but not now. He would have only last a year or so anyway. Especially as he seem to be injured everytime he has to go outside London which is ok for West Ham but feck all use to us.

Good point, Ruud and Olle have been quiet in the last two games (despite a goal each) but they've been given fuch all. We had 2 or 3 chances in the City game and slightly better (i presume) last Sunday.
This despite having our fair share of possesion. Someone to bring the midfield and attack closer together would probably help. Scholes is perhaps a bit too inconsistent in that role.

Someone like Di Canio who has the creative and spark is perfect. Hope Fergie already has someone in his mind.

I am 99.9% certain you are correct. No new players.

At the moment, I'd settle for Bex, Rio and Keano being 100% fit again.

At least we could field a competitive first 11.
