Bought Unreal Tournament III & Colin McRae rally for my dad the other day expecting to be able to bring mates over for UTIII and race eachother on Colin McRae, only to find out that their only 1 player offline.

What the feck happened to split screen gaming? Can't do it on next-gen consoles or something?

Motorstom 2 = 4 player splitscreen.

GT5:P = 2 player splitscreen.

Maybe you need to do a little bit of research before you buy?

The main reason a lot of games don't include it is because online multiplayer (for better or worse, I'm with the latter) has taken a greater priority.

Fair enough. I don't care that much, just suprising that a fecking FPS wouldn't have offline multiplayer. I impulse buy alot, consisting of little or no sesearch.

Oh well, i'll have to continue dusting off the 64 for Goldeneye then.

Or Amiga for Hired Guns. ;)

Split screen has to be designed in from the start, as it's more complicated than you might think (next-gen doesn't actually help matters, but that's a different discussion). Still, it surprises me when online multiplayer games don't have it.

Here's Motorstorm 2 doing it.

COD4 and Resistance both have split screen if your looking for an FPS.

Agreed.

Also, it pisses me off that developers are now concentrating on online gaming. It seems as if they're putting little effort into offline.

Online gaming is slightly overrated in my honest opinion.

All you had to do was check the back of the box to be sure. There are way fewer offline multiplayer games though.

Me too, it is much better and more enjoyable playing against people you know.

Get a Wii if you want offline split screen.

Playing that at work today, I'm addicted to Wii bowling (We only have Wii Sports, but it keeps me entertained). Was playing with my work mate (From around 10 till 1:30, we did feck all work:lol:) and we played 19 games, he is currently winning 11 - 8.

Great fun though.

Wii Sports is like the best game you'll ever play for about 2 weeks, then after that it get's shite. Playing SSB and Mario Kart 4player is the shiz though!

I do that online anyway. The joys of Xbox live

I can play against people I know on PSN, but I prefer offline multiplayer. Look no further than Goldeneye, I could play that all day as a kid with my brother. Mario Kart too, easily one of the best multiplayer games ever!

Goldeneye was overrated, Perfect Dark > Goldeneye. Both excellent games though.

Another reason why Warhawk is one of the best PS3 games.

Warhawk does look good. I should pick it up. I was under the impression that it was mainly an online multiplayer.

Rainbow Six Vegas and Ghost Recon AW2 both have good split screen multi-player. Better than COD4, imo.

Im playing Warhawk but im shite, I cant seem to get the jist of it and I just end up giving up in the end and playing Halo 3 multiplayer.

The game looks very good though but the learning curve is too damn steep!

The learning curve is very steep, I got owned for so long after getting it. My problem was I'd just join the first game I could with 30/31 players and not look at the skill level so I was out of my depth. There are rookie servers (which I never used) though so I'd recommend anyone starting out to go on those to begin with, and with the latest update theres a few tutorials.

As some of you know, I detest 1 player console games with few exceptions. Therefore these are the games I have bought recently:

FIFA 11 and PES11, needs no explanation.
Motorstorm Apocalypse. 4 player offline split screen, 2 player online split screen.
Motorstorm Pacific Rift. 4 player offline split screen.
CoD: MW2. 4 player split screen. 2 players with bots. No Splitscreen Online. (I think).
CoD: WaW. 4 player split screen. 2 players with bots. No Splitscreen Online. (I think).
CoD: Black Ops. 4 player split screen. 2 players with bots. 2 player online split screen.
blur (racing game): 4 player split screen.
Warhawk. 4 player split screen.
Rayman Origins. 4 player same screen. 1-3 player online
Little Big Planet. 4 player same screen.
Little Big Planet 2. 4 player same screen.

3 platformers, 2 sports games, 3 driving games, 4 shooters. And yet still there is a severe lack.

Edit - And Portal 2

6 of those aren't exclusive either.....so shouldn't use them.

There are too few good offline multiplayer console games these days.
People who enjoy a shooter co-op have to settle for Army of Two or Kane & Lynch. My favorite so far besides FIFA is a playstation network game called Dead Nation. It's 2 player and it's very good. I highly recommend it.

First Resistance game was good fun as a 2 player. Resistance 2 ruined the offline aspect. It was horrible.

Portal 2, fighters.

Why not? I dont care about the exclusivity as long as they exist.

Will have to get Dead Nation then, but there are a few co-ops out like you said. But there are no where near enough offline vs games, games you can sit round with a few mates and drink and have fun.

This is a great list if you only want CO-OP, but not other types like vs games aren't included: http://www.co-optimus.com/system/2/playstation-3.html

As soon as me and a mate finished Dead Nation we started the campaign again in the hardest mode. That's how fun it is. Some of these indie studio games I've played in the last year on PS3 and PC are brilliant.

PSN only? Damn, no cheap second hand.

Why is there no split screen for Dead Island.

Why is there no Left 4 Dead on PS3

Grr

Yup. I got it free when PS where giving a limited number of games away after the credit card fiasco. But my PS is currently dead now for the 5th time so I think I've lost it :(
PSN games aren't expensive to begin with. Don't think it will cost more than 10 bucks.

Yeah I got that Dead Nation free too. Not really played it, looked pretty good though.

And you would't have lost it, just have to go to your purchase history on a new console (or repaired) and re-download

I still haven't played an offline multiplayer game better than Timesplitters 2.

Hope so. Not sure if that worked in this instance. Wouldn't put it past Sony to have made it a one time thing.

Yeah that's pretty much spot on. Possibly Mario Kart is still the king of the offline multiplayer racetrack too.

Only platformers have improved, sonic and tails was a bit rubbish.
