What if the perfect manager becomes....

Looking at some of the contenders for the job, when SAF decides to call it a day, presents a very interesting picture at the moment.

Hitzfeld (who should be the number candidate in my opinion)position is looking very uncertain @ Bayern at the moment, given their CL failure, internal poroblems with the "Heirarchy" namely Beckenbauer and Rhummenigger etc... The club have even been strongly linked with Wenger over the past couple of days.

o'Neill: wants that bigger challenge, i.e. World Class team, European heavyweight etc... Stalling on signing a new contract with Celtic.

Ericsson: Speculation mounting that he might quit the job, due to the sacking of Crozier and McClaren quitting his coaching role. Has made no secret of his desire to retun to club football and to manage Man. U.

The point is here that, what if the perfect candidate for the next manager of Man Utd. becomes available at this point in time or in the near future.

By no means am i saying that SAF should quit (never in a million yrs!!!!!!) but lets say Hitzfeld becomes available. a man of his calibre and pedigree aint going to be around for too long before he gets snapped up, do you reckon that if the team were perhaps not performing to expected standards, SAF may be encouraged to move upstairs to allow a new man to step in.....

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not take this as a SAF criticism, I just wandered what the general opinion would be on a situation like this if it ever came about!!

No, I think it's a fair question (I must admit I am getting a bit tired of the instant "he's wrong" type responses rather than engaging the points the poster is actually making).

It is not about disrespecting Sir Alex at all. It's about how to avoid the destabilisation we suffered last season.

Its a fair question...the timing of SAF previous resignation was affected by there being no suitable candidate so why shouldnt the availability of one b4 the next expected date do the same....its all about knowing the boss IS going & making sure we get the best replacement surely.....personally I would be more than happy with O'Neill taking over.....big shoes to fill though eh!?

I find it very mystifying the way D O'Leary totally ruled himself out of the vacant EIRE job from the outset, when previously he has always indicated he would like to manage his fellow countrymen, suggesting he has something lined up his sleeve. Maybe I am putting 2 and 2 together and getting five, but if O'Neil gets the United job than O'Leary may been have promised the Celtic job, the whole Irish connection and O'leary's brother played for Celtic in the 80's, or even come to think of it , maybe O'Leary may get the United job, crazy as it may seem, I know Fergie has sung his praises in the past.

These views are only my interpretations of the unfolding events and are by no means a recommendation.

Good theory. Wouldn't you say though that maybe O'Leary feels that more club management experience is required before managing a country? McCarthy certainly made a pig's breakfast of it.

Hitzfeld is a very good tactician, but I feel we still need a good motivator. I'm not sure Hitzfeld is the man for the job. O'Neill is still tactically naive but this can be improved, I suppose.

Should we get a firebrand manager or a calm tactician?

I think if the perfect manager becomes available there is no reason we shouldnt jump in and let him work with SAF for ahile and slowly let the new man take over. As to who that new man may be is anyones guess.

McLaren: Former coach, knows the team, tactically solid, maybe questionable motivator? Good fo the youth as well!

Capello: Similar to McLaren in many ways, experienced, good record with youth players.

Hitzfeld: Another tactician, experienced, resonable record but im not convinced.

Erikkson: Master tactician, i guess would be good at finding some good talent in the youth stakes, very questionable motivational skills.

queiroz: Unknown quantity but could be a dark horse for the job.

O'Niell: Was my preferred option a few years back but im losing faith, excellent motivator, questionable tactics.

My tip: Capello gets it!
McLaren, Queiroz, O'Niell too inexperienced,
Hitzfeld, ends up elsewhere.
Erikkson, we decide we dont want an ex-Engalnd manager and he decides he doesnt like the English press!
