I'm looking to download new BitTorrent software, since the program I've got is old now and keeps prompting me to update. But rather than do that I'd like to see if I'm using the best one, or if there are better ones out there.

At the moment I'm using BitComet, but I've heard good things about Azureus, too. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks :)

Since i am entirely e-clueless, can anybody tell me what a torrent is...and if necessary why you would use it.

Cheers

I use BitLord.
Is there really much difference though? Surely it all depends solely on the torrent?

Used to use Azureus, which is really good, but tried out utorrent for a bit and have stuck with it. Azureus seems to be quite resource hungry at times, uTorrent is a tiny ball of efficiency (albeit slightly less comprehensive).

the software doesent matter that much
its all about the torrent
i use bitcomet

Forget Torrents guys.

I will tell you something I was told about two weeks ago, get signed up to a news group. I have found with plenty of use that I very rarely got full download speeds with torrents (too many selfish cnuts leeching), but I have been gifted with the knowledge of pretty much the same available shit for download but with the guarantee of almost always full download speeds.

For example, I am on 4Gb cable broadband and have been downloading a 1.6GB movie file in under an hour, a full mp3 album in under a minute.

It's easy to set up too, sign up to an NZB listing site like NZBMatrix and download a piece of software called Grabit and away you go after some small set up issues.

Have a read of the forum on Matrix for detailed instructions on setting up (5 minute job).
