From the good or great to the downright bad or dire, each of the post-Fergie managers have left their mark on the club. Just as with the managers who came between Busby’s end and Fergie’s arrival, a sound bite and a swift descriptive of their reign has already been formed.

”Dithering Dave” or ‘LVG played sleep-inducing football’ etc. The Lisandro news today immediately had me think of what another manager did here with players, which pretty much made clear that there’s an immediate link to his legacy and whatever offshoots the brain then goes on to forge.

Even if you didn’t like a manager or his time at the club, it can be acknowledged that they brought some good to the table; even Moyes brought things to light that should have been addressed earlier than they were, so it wouldn’t be fair or correct to say his legacy is all bad. Would be good if some thought went into answers as this isn’t meant to be a bashing thread, more a question of how you yourself perceived each manager and the legacy they left behind, for the positive and the negative.

Moyes - no idea what kind of football we were playing, saying we aspire to be like City, losing to Olympiakos
Van Gal - crab football, boring as feck, wanting "horny" players, letting Chicharito go (not nice)
Mourinho - gritty wins, lots of drama, wining the Europa League, shit football at the end
Solkskjaer - amazing run like i've never seen to start, amazing decline like i've never seen, beating PSG out of nowhere, fine margins but no tactics

Moyes
Good: when he was sacked
Bad : When he was linked
Ugly:when he was appointed

Lvg
Good: that run of win against City and Liverpool at anfield
Bad: all the boring 0-0 draws and that Leicester loss

Ugly: everything after the CL exit. We just gave up.

ETH
Good: carabao win and win against Barca
Bad: that Sevilla defeat and weghorst playing for us
Ugly: away form and the 7-0..

Moyes

Good: I was in Australia that summer so scuba diving and calamari.
Bad: Making Vidic watch Jagielka videos so he could see how a real defender plays
Ugly: fecking seventh place. Realising that replacing Fergie might not happen until the next manager comes in.

Van Gaal

Good: sex masochism and other insane moments
Bad: Playing some of the most boring football I've ever seen, but having a manager so stubborn to change his ways he won't even drop a shit declining Rooney let alone change tactics
Ugly: Realising that replacing Sir Alex might need another roll of the dice

Mourinho

Good: Mourinho being a cool guy
Bad: Mourinho being a cnut
Ugly: Wondering if we'll ever replace Fergie

Solskjær

Good: Pashun
Bad: nothing but Pashun
Ugly: Teams no longer being intimidated by us in any way whatsoever.

Rangnick

Good: The Father of the Gegenpress? Can't wait to see us become pressing masters!
Bad: Why aren't we becoming pressing masters? I thought this guy was an expert.
Ugly: Nope, still shite and we have a moaning twat in charge until the end of this season.

ten Hag (ongoing)

Good: Player management, proactive with tactics and evolving our game to suit modern requirements.
Bad: says "heh?" a lot.
Ugly: bike wanker

Glazers (never ending)

Good: none
Bad: everything
Ugly: Avram's fecking ponytail

Moyes: fist bump (OMG it's a draw, get in!)

Van Gaal: turning into a cock

Jose: respect respect respect!

Ole: trophies are for egos

Ragnick: open heart surgery (said by a nonsurgeon)

Ten Hag: on going.

Moyes

Good: errrr.... the 1-0 win against Arsenal I guess, RVP hatrick in the champions league.
Bad: Style of football, 81 crosses that we had to have "a football brain" to apparently understand, a bewildered attitude, the lack of any inspiration or confidence that he transmitted
Ugly: 3-0 defeats to Liverpool and City, 4-1 hammering to City,

Van Gaal

Good: An idea for a style of play at least, Juanfield, the 4-2 against City. I found him to be a likable, old-school coach who was eccentric and had authority. FA cup win (best trophy in post SAF era?). 4 wins in 4 league games against Liverpool
Bad: The style of play didn't have the right players, and was really boring to watch. The Champions league exit hurt a lot. Poor transfers.
Ugly: That period where we couldn't score at all and fans cheered when we actually had a shot on goal. The West ham defeat.

Mourinho

Good: First season was exciting with Zlatan, an excellent defensive record and our best post-SAF season with 80+ points. The 3-2 win against City.
Bad: Hideous football, the fallout with Pogba.
Ugly: "Football heritage". The most depressing transfer summer in 18-19 with just Fred and Dalot expected to make up the gap to City and where he was clearly fed up and transmitting that to everyone else. Horrible ego and just made everyone miserable.

Solskjær

Good: That night in Paris. Lightning quick transitional play with power and speed, he had City and Pep's number for quite awhile
Bad: Style of play, McFred, Lindelof and Maguire as a partnership, emphasis on nostalgia, United DNA/the United way which just didn't feel right or forward thinking.
Ugly: Big defeats to Liverpool and City. Europa League final.

Rangnick

Good: 30 minutes against Crystal Palace. Identified the big issues with recruitment and player egos
Bad: Terrible football and a season the players couldn't have given a feck about
Ugly: Player fallouts and the worst season we've had in the PL era, hammerings by City and Liverpool (bit of a theme here)

ten Hag (ongoing)

Good: The best time i've had watching United post SAF was probably between the 2-0 win against Spurs and the League cup final. Getting rid of Ronaldo.
Bad: not enough goals.
Ugly: Greenwood and Antony situations, hammerings to City and Liverpool,

Moyes - aimlessly crossing the ball, could not wait to get rid of the clown.

LvG - aimlessly passing the ball sideways, only entertained in the last 10 mins of games. Sad that he was kicked out, his 3rd year could have yielded more trophies for us, they are usually his best.

Mourinho - visionary winner, but tumescent style of play which didn't entertain me 1 bit.

OGS - loved the geezer, brought me to the TV again, football entertainment and happiness. I was gutted when the club brought in CR7 instead of the CDM we desperately needed, cost the man his job. He could have been here today was it not for HIS shit recruitment and the imposition of CR7 upon him.

Ralph Rangnick - another excellent visionary, but ignored by the club and pushed out for the latest hot manager, and I wish he stayed at the club as Dof. Proving his doubters wrong with Austria NT. Maybe he will come back with a vengeance and help us beat Pep for once and for all as our own answer to Txi at City.

Moyes

Good: Januzaj
Bad: The crosses
Ugly: celebrating a draw against Fulham at home

Van Gaal

Good: The hopeful, youthful core
Bad: Ronaldo signing

Contract ends

Moyes

Good: umm not much. Bayer Leverkusen group stage was fun I guess?
Bad: most things, dreading him taking over and wanting him gone pretty much asap
Ugly: getting battered in big games

Van Gaal

Good: fa cup win, young players coming through.
Bad: boring football
Ugly: the streak of not scoring around Christmas 15/16

Mourinho

Good: Europa League win, ibra
Bad: fa cup final loss, the way he was building the squad
Ugly: 18/19 until he was sacked

Solskjær

Good: Win vs Man City just before COVID, or the PSG win, Rashford and Bruno
Bad: losing Europa League final, his transfers for the most part
Ugly: getting battered to Liverpool, city and Watford at the end

Rangnick

Good: uhhhhh we did ok in January. More so that I felt our club was moving in a more modern direction when he was appointed
Bad: pushing out rashford
Ugly: end of 21/22

ten Hag (ongoing)

Good: League Cup win
Bad: FA Cup loss
Ugly: 7-0 loss

Moyes

Good: 4-0, 4-1 to start with (maybe this machine runs itself?)
Bad: The big defeats to Liverpool and City
Ugly: Fellaini: the symbolism, the home defeat to Everton soon after, that time he ran the ball out v Bayern.

Van Gaal

Good: Consistently beating Liverpool/City, Martial+Rashford come in and look amazing
Bad: the fall in excitement after the Leicester defeat
Ugly: Christmas 2015: most miserable football ever, and this was soon after being nearly 1st in the table.

Mourinho

Good: The start to 2017/18 had some slick, attacking, winning football
Bad: Virtually every game after signing Sanchez
Ugly: The way he set up for Sevilla at home, and for his last match at Anfield, should mean jail time for a big club manager.

Solskjær

Good: 5-1 debut win, multiple City wins, lockdown football
Bad: the way the "title challenge" in 2020-21 fell away in a month
Ugly: heavy defeats at the end

Rangnick

Moyes

Good: when they put him out of his misery
Bad: Fulham, crosses, transfers, wrecking the title winning squad
Ugly: everything in the end

Van Gaal

Good: FA Cup win
Bad: MK Dons
Ugly: the tumescent play (this should be t u r g i d but it’s being autocorrected to tumescent, which is apt considering LVG seemed a bit sex mad at times)

Mourinho

Good: Europa League win
Bad: when the honeymoon period wears off and Jose becomes Jose
Ugly: his manner of leaving

Solskjær

Good: PSG comeback
Bad: think the rot really set into the squad with him, in terms of bad attitude
Ugly: the massive humpings we received under him, too many to list

Rangnick

Good: he recognised the squad and club need massive overhaul
Bad: the overhaul didn’t happen, and still hasn’t
Ugly: how awful our football was and the fact the players couldn’t be arsed

ten Hag

Good: finally the overhaul has started
Bad: not selling Mag and Mc when we had the chance, he should have been screaming for them to be out the door
Ugly: some of our results and not just the results but the fact we utterly capitulate when we weren’t usually playing they badly in the games, plus the recent open season on United in the press

Moyes

Good: He didn't accidentally set fire to anything?
Bad: Everything else
Ugly: the league cup semi final vs Sunderland. Quite possibly the single worst game of football ever played.

Van Gaal

Good: Queens Park Raisins, Strawberries Town, Mike Smalling etc. Generally the fact he was a raving maniac
Bad: Constantly changing players positions, constantly using the word process to hide the fact there wasn't one. Generally the fact he was a raving maniac
Ugly: Tactics that involved not trying to score or have any shots for large periods of every game. Lots of players with weird or ugly shaped faces.

Mourinho

Good: The middle bit of the first season. The first bit of the second season.
Bad: The other bits. Obsession with picking all the tall players. Tactics gradually descending more and more into sitting on a 1-0 lead, until it reached a point where we'd do it when it was still 0-0
Ugly: Weekly press conferences descending into him criticising whoever had criticised him during the week

Solskjær

Good: He's quite nice. Few spells of looking like a decent side
Bad: doesn't understand what a midfield is. Habit of picking players week after week even if they're awful/not match fit/literally have a broken back. Substitutions for the sake of substitutions rather than because he understood a change needed to be made.
Ugly: The whole last season where he should have been let go at the end of the previous one with a decent reputation still in tact, but instead was sent out to drown week after week.

Rangnick

Good: I think we beat Tottenham or something
Bad: Being terrible in every single game
Ugly: my memory has already repressed most of this period.

ten Hag (ongoing)

Good: the middle bit of the first season. Actually signing midfielders. Competing for trophies
Bad: Signing a striker on loan from a championship side. Most of this season so far
Ugly: Anfield. Various episodes of ridiculous off field melodrama most of which isn't actually his fault.

I blame Moyes for dismantling the setup at United. Perhaps he needed to manage with his own staff and philosophy.
Van Gaal for criminally selling off the squad players. He sold the likes of Evans for 2.5m and we ended up with Bailly and Lindelof for 30m each.
Mourinho was always about himself but won an European trophy.
Ole for lifting and freeing the players from the previous two managers. The players then slacked off getting him the sack.
Rangnick - Nearly getting Rashford to quit the club.

Ten Hag for making the players compete again. Hopefully he continues and gets the chance to rebuild the team.

Moyes

Good: Short reign, so limited impact. And we still had hope that it was solely a him problem.
Bad: The initial horror of that first Post-SAF season going as bad as it could have.
Ugly: That initial summer transfer window, a portent of things to come under Woodward.

Van Gaal

Good: Juanfield.
Bad: His signings.
Ugly: The football

Mourinho

Good: Won the Europa league.
Bad: The approach to football.
Ugly: The toxicity.

Solskjær

Good: The decision to appoint him as interim manager, which went well.
Bad: The decision to appoint him as permanent manager, which didn't.
Ugly: Kidding ourselves that he wasn't as unqualified and out of his depth as the rest of football assumed he was, leading to several seasons building to nothing. Not the worst of the four managerial spells, but the abiding memory is that it was the biggest, most predictable and most avoidable waste of time.

Moyes

Good: The first match against Swansea
Bad: The rest
Ugly: 3-0 home batterings to City and Liverpool (the shape of things to come)

Van Gaal

Good: FA cup win, of course. And that run of form at the end of the season before with big wins against City, Spurs and Liverpool.
Bad: All the games where we never looked like scoring
Ugly: How much he wound up some of the players.

Mourinho

Good: None. Anything that would have been positive was ruined by him acting like him.
Bad: Everything
Ugly: Storming out of press conferences talking about his own achievements. Taking credit for everything that was good and throwing all the players under the bus for everything that wans't.

Solskjær

Good: The first game against Cardiff. The initial run of form. The PSG win. Some big away wins against rivals.
Bad: All the games where we looked clueless
Ugly: The regular batterings at the end

Rangnick

Good: That 3-2 win against Tottenham. Genuinely struggling to recall a single other notable win off the top of my head.
Bad: Every other match
Ugly: 4-0 at Brighton

ten Hag (ongoing)

Good: Amazing run in the middle of last season. Handling of the media last season. Binning off Ronaldo.
Bad: Awful away form
Ugly: 7-0 at Liverpool. 4-0 at Brentford.
