What a renaissance by Veron...

Veron has simply been sublime in the last few weeks...
Just a bit dodgy with his passing though...
What do you guys think are his strengths and weaknesses??

Veron is on fire. His strengths are his passing, and the ability to open up play. His main weakness is that he cannot play with Beckham.

Unfortunately I thought when beckham came on in the second half against West Ham, Veron went back to poor passing, sloppy defending and was average. Beckham tore about the place like a headless chicken. In my opinion Veron and Beckham cannot play together. They are too similar and their is only space for 1 of them on the team sheet.

Which one would you go for?

I would pick Veron, and play Ole on the right. Beckham is disrupting the formation when he keeps coming in field and congesting the midfield. Ole stays out wide. We have enough in the middle at the moment with Phil, Veron and Scholes. No need for the widemen to come in.

If Beckham starts to get his game together, keep out on the right and forget about running all over the show, maybe he should get his place back ahead of Ole.

Yeh I agree, but he has to stay out wide and forget about playing in the middle.

Re: thumper. I'd say Keane will probably be a staright swop for Phil.

I think the reason the team has been doing so well is because the players have been given jobs to do and they have stuck to them.

Phil - breaking up play and keeping it simple.

Ole - fantastic crossing and a bit of grit on the right.

Veron - tackle back and supply the front.

If Keane and Beckham return then they have to continue this and take lessons from Ole and Phil.

Spot on lynott. Keane will be a natural replacement for Phil Neville who has being outstanding while Beckham must be made to stay out on the right and control his game. he has the ability to do it so lets see him deliver.

For too long the answer to UTD's problem was just to ALWAYS give it to Becks deep and ask him to hit the front two with a 50 yarder.

I think Becks impinges on Keanos' natural game, and Roy plays a different game when Becks is in the side.

Even though Dave is a fine player, I think he's incredibly over-rated when it comes to technique, and I don't think he's got a trick in his locker. Can't fault the lads passion though...

I agree with the post that said Verons game changed after Becks came on 2nd half. He's obviously not fit, and his blunderbussing around may have been unsettling to the balance.

Would have Veron got the chance to have a pop from 30yds had Becks been in the side??

Does anybody else think that 80%of Becks free kicks and corners are rubbish??

And he's always diving just outside the box?? Before he got injured, it was becoming increasingly more embarrassing.........

I wouldn't be too harsh on Beckham. he knows now that he has to fight for his place and he was just trying to impose himself on the game. The trouble was he was taking up other peoples positions and pushing them out. He just needs to settle himself on the right and get some crosses in.

I've being saying that for years. Irwin and Giggs were better freetakers before Beckham came along.

I just want to add that I don't think anyone is questioning Beckhams overall ability. But I think the key to getting the most out of him is to make him do a job and get him to understand that we do have central midfielders and defenders and that its Keane and Verons role to act as playmaker while Beckham role which he was excellent at in 1999 was to terrify the oppositions defense with his clinical passing, his crosses and efforts at goal.

Becks needs to get his hero 'Robbo' out of his mind. Becks ain't ever gonna emulate Bryan Robson however much he tries. You're not gonna see Becks divin into the 6 yard box for a header amongst the boots, or stormin from box to box.

He should stick what he's good at, crossing and passing.

And let someone else have a go at free kicks/corners, for god's sake.

Verons corners were pretty naughty on Sat........

I think Beckham's freekicks are great, and he is the best in the Premiership at it. His corners and crossing in general are just shite tho' :(

Best free kick taker we had IMO was Denis Irwin. He always managed to get them just fractionally over the wall, and they always landed in the bottom corner.

Getting back to the point tho', if Beckham was prepared to go back to basics and stop fannying about in the centre, it'd be an easy choice to make. Keane has said that he has mellowed out and won't be charging round the pitch like a lunatic, and with our current desire he wont need to.

Yea i noticed that too. Veron's corners always tend to swing in nearer to the keeper. With JOS at the near post, we are always likely to score.

I've been noticing that as well. How often was O'Shea getting on the end of Seba's corners? If they keep it up he'll outscore the midfielders. <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

One thing I noticed was that Seba only seems to take corners from the left side so he can bend them in. Once when we had a corner on the right side Giggsy ran all the way over to take it. I don't know if that happened every time, as I only noticed it happen that once. Maybe Becks could take the corners on the right, Seba on the left.

I think Keane will have to modify his play if he's going to work well with Veron. Both players like to sit a bit deeper and control the ball around the park. When they were playing with each other before, the rest of the team automatically looked to Keano to be the main play-maker and that seemed to frustrate Veron who started to force passes and make mistakes. So if they're going to play together one of them will have to change the way they play a bit, and I think Keane is much more capable of that than Veron. When we have the ball he needs to play more like Scholes, getting forward and looking to be the man on the end of the pass rather than the instigator.

We do have a dilemma, to any of the cnuts out there that diss our midfield <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

It just goes to show what a excellent team we have when we are disputing whether David Beckham Or JSV should play.

I now know how the Kopites feel when they have to choose out of Biscan Or Smicer ;)

Seba was superb tonight, and that was with Beckham in the team! He has really stepped up about 3 gears and he now really looks like a top player! His work rate was excellent and he hit about 5 or 6 truly World Class passes! He tackled hard, dribbled well and used the ball sensibly! Long may this continue!

Keep it up Seba!

He seems very effective in the center lower defensive midfield position. He feeds the ball everywhere and the passes made percentage were high. I think he did very well but sometimes I saw he got a chance to score but he ended up by setting up his other teammates and his goal attempts are very less. I hope he can give more practice in scoring and when a chance come he will be confidence to score. I think he got a strong and accurate right foot to do so but just lack off some speed. Now he got 2 already, I really hope he will be scores more in this season.

I think Beck's has lost his quality a bit in the last year or so..
He was really good in the 96-97 season and treble season...
He has become a bit more sterotype now and he tried much toooo hard when he came on as a sub...
I hope he sorts his game out, and doesn't spoil Seba..!!!
He still deserves his place in the team though...even if it is just because of his determination....
His easy falls have become quite embarrassing though!!
:)
